No matter what religion your from, why do you believe what you believe. I believe in God because all of the bible is proven, and everything has a creator. There is more to it, but I want to see what ya'll have to say.

I always thought astrology, palm reading, psychics was just momentary entertainment and schemes to get money from people. How true is it?

Those who believe in God are often chided for belief in a being that seems to hold aloof. I wonder, though, if this very distance is one of the necessary ingredients to strong religious faith.

See, I have always held to the belief that God, if he is to be sought out, is to be found in our fellow man. I've often used the phrase that "God must look like my friend, or I won't recognize him." Mind you, I am an Atheist, but I have in my contemplation of life tried to connect to a feeling of deity, and have always gone after the human component. I've seen it as a strength, the familiarity of divinity expressed through the best of human behaviour: charity, kindness, comforting one another, etc. My idea of "God" has been an expression of human action, a positive verb.

I wonder, though, if those who maintain God as aloof have that very distance as a strength to their faith. When God is too human, he is disappointing at times, just as humans are. Perhaps distance is good? Thoughts?

Yes, I know this is a departure from our regular jousting but hey, it's close to Christmas and I have a gift for you. What gift you say? Well isn't your health important? I have a small bit of information that will no doubt benefit a lot of folks in this cold and flu season. In case you haven't heard there is a cough medicine gaining popularity because it actually WORKS!! It is alcohol and sugar free and even a six year old can take it. My wife said it worked enormously better than the prescribed Tylenol with codeine. The name of the cough medicine is BUCKLEY'S. Warning! They warn you that it tastes terrible but let me tell you, everyone that I know who tried it says that it works better than any OTC or RX cough medicine. Merry Christmas!

I meet this really awesome guy through yahoo personals. He is 25 and I am 23. I mean he couldn't be more perfect. He is cute, hot, sweet, and he has this "oh my god, how cute" accent. But, he lives kind of far away. And neither of us have a car right now. Am I wasting my time, or should I continue to let love take it's course?

for you to tell me your biggest lesson learned from the year.
The biggest lesson I have learned this year is that if she asks if it looks good... it does even if its horrid. Trust me you will never live it down.

So yup, what is the most important lesson you learned this year?

Below you will find a link to a picture of the "buddy" Christ figure from the Kevin Smith movies. The suggestion in the movies is that even more people would respond positively to Jesus if he seemed more like a buddy and, as depicted, was pointing at you and giving the thumbs up.

It is difficult to understand why a new born baby would have to suffer a birth defect.Man has spent much time and money trying to correct and come up with a cure for what ails the flesh. This is not to question our Lord.I am confident that He knows what is best, and does just that.
BUT IS THERE ANY REASON WHY WE SHOULD SUFFER A SPIRITUAL BIRTH DEFECT?

I'm curious as to what he sounds like. And for those who say that God doesn't actually speak to them in a physical voice, but rather it's just a feeling of knowing what to do that overcomes them, how do you know that it's really God and not just your subconcious mind ?

Well, before you think of me as a "jerk" for asking that, maybe I should explain that if you complain it doesn't mean that you are "selfish", (God forbid, We have our freedoms in America, cause our founding ancestors complained about and to King George.)

I just need your review and hopefully constructive criticism of an idea that I am pondering.

Here it is:

It seems to me that “selfish” people complain a lot (sometimes those complaints are logical, and sometimes those complaints are warranted). Intelligent people (I mean deep thinking people) complain very rarely, instead, they either adjust to the circumstances or they simply go about changing the circumstances.

The question is: Please help me refine or re-think this, or point out the flaw in my logic , before I make a major decision in my life based on the above premise. --- Please "fire at will, Dudley."

It seems to me that it just pushes the problem back a step. The argument I'm talking about is specifically the argument that says:

1. Life forms are complex.
2. Complex things require a creator that is more complex than the creation.
3. God is the only thing more complex than life.
4. Therefore, life forms were created by God.
4a. God did not require a creator.

My issue with it is that it posits God as a complex entity that doesn't require a creator. Why make this exception?

Can anybody explain to me why the argument isn't as bad as I think it is? Thanks.

Also, if I've given a strawman version of the argument, I'd be happy for someone to correct me.
