This is a wonderful question, and I hope I understand it correctly.
There is absolutely no reason we should suffer from a spiritual birth defect. A natural birth defect is one that we have no control over, and many many people have overcome birth defects to become wonderful people and great ambassadors for mankind. (Helen Keller, Fanny Crosby, just to name a few).
But a spiritual birth defect is one that we have control over. Do we choose to live in darkness separated by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Or do we take the time to get to know him on a personal level. Do we commit our lives to serving God in the way He wants us to serve Him? Or do we live in an empty shell of a life, continuing to find something else to fill the void that only Christ can fill, and then on our death bed wishing that what we did was right. When those who know Jesus and live for Jesus will know that on our death bed what we did, was right.
There is absolutely no excuse for spiritual birth defect. Unfortunately, no matter what we try to do, skeptics will never accept the truth, until they decide to accept the truth. That in it self is a difficult task, Tim LaHaye wrote in his book "Jesus Who Is He." "Once a skeptic has his mind made up, personal pride will not permit him to change his position, no matter how many facts to the contrary might confront him."

There is no Spiritual defect only if that Defect is of Satan.
Think Brother, Father God in Heaven and his Breathing Word
is Faultless, don't buy Into that, which confuse you
God said it for he is not a confusing God
That old Satan the Devil is the confussion
Doubt of a Mustard seed comes from Satan
Truth of Life Mustard seed which is without Doubt comes from Father God in Heaven

The reason we suffer a spiritual defect is for what Adam and Eve did. We all became affected and in need of a savior.

Dear brother, you are describing a stronghold that can be passed down from previous generations, when sin entered in and manifested into a generational physical disease. For this baby you describe, victory is just right around the corner. With much prayer and fasting by you and other relatives on her behalf, she has a good chance of overcoming any congenital "birth defect". The flesh will pass but the spirit will live, through Jesus Christ. And through Him, we can overcome any obstacle!
God Bless You and your precious family Don! {{{DON}}}

According to Christian teaching, it is our defects that best express God's power and love. According to Christian theology, God uses our weakness to best express his glory.
When one is strong, one is less likely to depend on God. When, however, one is weak, God is the source of strength. These matters are of important distinction in Christianity, because what is important is not man's glory, but God's.
If it comes down to spiritual strength, having a spiritual "defect" is of no limit whatsoever where God is concerned. It is in our weakness that he is made strong, correct? Why should a spiritual defect matter? Is God limited by our defects?
In the end, a person with a defective spirit may end up with just as strong a testimony as one whose spirit is whole. The wounded spirts are God's canvasses, I think.

There can be many reasons.
Like God told the Jewish people to stick to His kosher diet and they would stay well. We use foods in our diets today that have a lot of negative items in them, that we are eating.
In the Bible, Jesus was asked which one the parents sins caused their child to be handicapped. Jesus told them he had been made handicapped so he, Jesus, could cure their son.
It could be because the handicap would cause the person to not be in a neg. place, that he/she would have gone to if the handicap was not there.
........
I'm epileptic. And I prayed for decades for it to go away. But it did not. Then both of my sons were kidnapped. When the stress from the kidnapping builds up the seizure comes and takes the pain away. So God gave it to me for my own protection.

Joel Wallach tell us that 98% of birth defects are caused by mineral deficiency. YHVH does not force you to forgo supplementation. You have free choice.

EVERYONE has a spiritual birth defect. All are born missing a vital key part. Our spirit is born DEAD. Jesus offers to revive it.
BECAUSE, By the deeds of the law there shall no person be justified in God’s sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin and all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:20, 23
THEN, They all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:12 Also I say unto you, whosoever shall confess me (Jesus) before men, him shall the Son of man (Jesus) also confess before the angels of God: But he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. Luke 12:8-9
HOWEVER, The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
FOR, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me. John 14:6
THEREFORE, If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans 10:9
THEN, He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white robes; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Revelation 3:5
SO, That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:15

Spiritual birth defect?? Are you joking? Great way to minimize the pain and suffering of those who have real birth defects. I pity you.
