You read my mind! To answer the question... Yes there are people that still consider "gay" an insult. How could it be an insult? It either means happy or homosexual and since neither of those things are bad it is not an insult. People that use it when they are trying to insult you should be ignored and driven out of polite society. Anyone over 12 years old should know better.

There are still people who use "gay" as an insult, unfortunately. It grates on my every nerve to hear them do this, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it.

The word "gay" is not an insult. No terms synonymous with "gay" are insults. Only the ignorant use them as such.

You mean in it's original meaning? Light-hearted and happy? I never even hear it used in that context any more. But it's not an insult when used that way.

Or if you mean being called gay...when you're not. I'd be offended if someone said I was gay since I'm not.

Or, if you mean something is "gay' and that is meant to mean it's ridiculous or silly. Then I'd say, yes, many still think of it as an insult.

I don't. There is nothing wrong with being gay, so how could it possibly be insulting?

Edit:
By the way, the whole "That's GHEY" didn't start out as a bash toward GAY people. It came from the online gaming community and there was no thought of gay people in mind when it was being used.

Nope! I am Gay, and I am Happy, and I am Up Beat.

But I find it really irritating when someone says ''That's so Gay, implying that it is, substandard, or not good, or that it is bad. It is meant to be demeaning to Gays, and I am offended for them.
I, myself have no problem being referred to as Gay, as that Moron, Francine seems to think, that it is insulting to combine Gays, with atheists.
Some are Gay, and some are not. It depends on the individual.
But it is by no means an insult. At least as far as I am concerned.

In fact I think yes.
Because the new generations. If you think give education to a child it is very bad taste teach him that the word gay it's the right world so on that point of view it is an insult.

That all depends on how you use the word gay. If you use it to be meen than yes, but if you use is just to decribe somthing then no. Like if your talking to someone and they ask "Well whats up with so-n-so? I saw him kiss a guy". and you say "well, he's gay" then it's not an insult.

So, is it an insult or not?

I am waiting to find out--everyone is so defensive, you never know what is going to set someone off.

Some people are proud to call themselves 'gay' but if you actually call them that, they get mad.

ANd if you say that you are glad to be straight, you get biffed, like it's a bad thing.

It's like walking on eggshells around here.

I'm insulted to think that people think a word might only have one meaning, regardless of context.
