Below you will find a link to a picture of the "buddy" Christ figure from the Kevin Smith movies. The suggestion in the movies is that even more people would respond positively to Jesus if he seemed more like a buddy and, as depicted, was pointing at you and giving the thumbs up.

You would think it would be less offensive than the depiction of him dead on a cross.

I can't recall the last time something offended me. I tend to look at offended people as delicately thin skinned and unable to function in the real world.

And honestly I think people are offended less often than some people think or claim. The word has come to be used as a way of belittling someone else's differing opinion.

As in...
"I don't really agree with your opinion"

"Oh wow, don't get all offended."

==

I really did not expect the only person offended would be a Muslim...

Nah.. it reminds me of an episode of Scrubs where JD imagines Laverne's Jesus statue talking to him.

Jesus: She's right, JD. Every life is precious.
JD: But what if having this baby is a huge mistake for us?
Jesus: Okay, I'm gonna make this real simple: No abortions, okay?
JD: But what if-
Jesus: No abortions!
JD: Lemme finish! What if the parents were like.. abusive drug addicts who would neglect their kids?
Jesus: Oh, well, in that case it'd be okay.
JD: Really?
Jesus: NO ABORTIONS! How are you not getting this!?

I'm Catholic and no, but then I have a twisted sense of humor.

The crucifix in the (Catholic) church where my cousin got married reminds me of buddy Jesus.

Yes! I say we burn down some buildings and attack New Jersey. And off with Kevin Smith's head! Who's with me?

No. He looks better giving a thumbs up than on a cross.

No, I think it is cool!!!

And kids will like it!!!

A lot of kids are not raised with good values!!!!

And a lot of kids do not have their fathers or mothers in their lives!!

They need a buddy!!!!

i don't find anything particularly new or challenging in this image - in fact a lot of evangelical christians seem to me similarly trivial.

i posted a link to max ernst' painting a few days ago. that upset people.

I find it amusing. But then, I always have. This isn't exactly a new product.

(I'm guessing no-one had better show you the website where you can order religious-themed marital aids)
