how do Catholic and other liturgical churches rationalize their rituals? such as genuflection, sitting, standing, kneeling, making the sign of the cross? does the need for this in worship come from the Bible? why is worship done this way?

**this is not criticism, just curiousity :)

Assuming humans find life on Europa or something of the sort, how will Christians respond? Will they drop their religion? Will new religions arise saying that God created that life too? Seems like religions have updated themselves to provide answers for the masses before, will that happen again? Will people believe it?

I am against the doctrines of men according to Galations?
what say you?

I continue to compliment them on all the wonderful things they have done in the name of Jesus. My previous question about Catholics was due to an attack insuating that we who dont' attend the Catholic church are not saved. That offended me.
May Jesus' prayer about Unity come true. I say amen to that.

This was taking place in the course of the same meeting that Jesus had with his disciples...

1) Peter is asking Jesus where he is going... John 13:36

2) Thomas is asking Jesus where he is going... John 14:5

3) Jesus is complaining that nobody is asking where he is going!... John 16:5

Was Jesus so upset about having to die for the sinners that he couldn't keep track of the questions that he was asked... or was there an ulterior motive for such a lament? Can Christians follow this same example, especially in politics?

so i grew up in the church and i always asked them where i could look in the historical records to help prove their point that jesus existed in the first place, and more so, did all these awesome things. their answers were dubious at best. i recently saw zeitgeist the movie, a film produced by ppl i dont even know, and they had much better answers then pastors and "friends" that i had known forever ever had for me. so, given the fact that jesus' name should be all over the historical records, im just curious as to where i should start my independent research to back up zeitgeist's very logical sounding claims. note- even the church stated a few times to me that "christ" wasnt a last name, rather, it was a title meaning "the annointed one". so anyones mentioning of the christ or christ in history is a little less then solid. zeitgiest accurately reports this fact in the movie as well. so my question is; where should i start my search for jesus in the history books? thanks for your time

I'm thinking specifically of The Great Awakening and the Azusa Street Revival (though there are many others). I'm not trying to put down the Catholic or Orthodox church in any way by asking this --- I'm just wondering if there are times of intense revival among these churches as there is at times in protestant churches.

Thanks!

[ Another Scottish joke ]

Red Adair walked into an Aberdonian pub after two weeks spent putting out a fire in a North Sea oil well. He ordered a pint of heavy and found a table. The man sitting next to him immediately noticed that this rugged-looking elderly fellow was indeed an American and said:

"I've been to the States myself, you know. I went there last year."

"Oh really..." our oil rig hero said in a rather tired voice.

"Aye, I spent a month in California. One night I went to a concert with a famous country singer called Benny Rogers, and..."

"Surely you must mean KENNY Rogers," Red said, looking at the ceiling.

"Aye, that's right. Anyway, he sang a duet with a bonnie lass called Polly Darton."

"It's DOLLY PARTON, not Polly Darton." Red was not in the friendliest of moods now.

The Scot realized that he was making a fool of himself and tried a change of topic:

"Haven't I seen you on TV? You're quite famous, aren't you?"

This made old Red cheer up:

"Indeed you have. I'm Red Adair!" he said with a grin.

"Red Adair?! The REAL Red Adair? So, are you still married to Ginger Rogers?"

One of the main arguments made against the idea of Sola Scriptura is the fact of denominations arising from it. If Sola Scriptura is wrong because of denominations then isn't oral tradition wrong too? If not why are the Orthodox church and Catholic church not in communion? The both claim to follow oral tradition and yet they do not agree with each other.

I've been an atheist for about fifteen years now. And I've never voted for president for anyone other than George W. Bush.

At 20, I voted for Bush thinking his "Compassionate Conservatism" was libertarian in principle; Republican tax cuts with Democratic interest in social issues. (Should have read a little beforehand, I guess. I was pretty young, that's my defense and I'm sticking to it.)

At 24, I voted for him again under the "Wasted Vote" theory; I preferred (marginally, this was still 2004) him to Kerry, and didn't want to "throw away" my vote for a libertarian or protest vote. (Although I considered voting for myself. Even though I was 11 years too young.)

Any other atheists who voted for God's Own President?

The worldwide flood that destroyed all life on earth except for Noah, his family, and the animals in the ark occurred in 4990 B.C. In 2 Peter 3 God refers back to this flood and then transitions to the destruction of the universe by fire. In verse 8 God says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." This is interesting because God told Noah to get inside the ark 7 days before He brought the flood (Genesis 7:4).

In verse 8 of 2 Peter 3 we read that interesting Scripture. If we add 7000 to 4990 B.C. (1 day = 1000 years) we arrive at the year 2011 A.D. Is this the year Christ will return as the "Lion of the tribe of Judah" to rapture the saints, destroy the universe bringing judgment on the ungodly, and create a new Heaven and Earth?

Remember God told Abraham and Lot before He destroyed Sodom + Gomorrah.

everyone just made him up for an answer to things like; where people go after death and how people/earth was created. sorry but i think people who believe in god are just retarded for believing this stupidity..and what even for? so they can waste all their life praying for things that never come true? you might as well just waste your time wishing on a shooting star, you'll have the same result. you god-believers just can't face the fact that we don't know what happeneds after death, you made him up to think it was all great and so you don't have to greive over someone b/c they're in a "better place" sorry, but i believe you're all retards who need to grow up.
-i have been atheist since 4th grade, when i could think on my own, when are you going to start? ღ-a 15 year old atheist.
