That is applied to the Bible is applied to all ancient texts then could they not all be considered fiction since in many instances those texts are the only record of those events?

It is well-know the Egyptians exaggerated in their ancient texts and even did not mention several events because they reflected very negatively on them...(i.e. they lost a war).

The Roman writers exaggerated about the things concerning Rome and it's emperors...

It is that way for many ancient writers, so how reliable are they?

Can we trust what the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and other wrote?

Is much of what we consider ancient history actually fiction?

If I told you that my friend Heather is the best Cook on the face of the earth does that make it an Opinion or fact? And if other people hold the same belief about another person, does it make it an opinion? Or Fact?

I'm just wondering if this is unusual. I come from a Mormon background and know that my religion is true. That said, my Church teaches there is truth in all religions, so as a hobby I study other religions. I think they all have really great things in them and could imagine a really fulfilling life as an Orthodox Jew, a Charismatic Christian (I like the way they emphasize faith) or a Scientologist (if I could afford it, but I like the way they have a lot of practical ideas for living a better life, I of course don't buy the stuff about the aliens). I've studied those religions and think they're very worthwhile. All those religions seem to have really good positive points to them. If I could live more than once, I'd like to experience other religions as a member of them. Does anyone else wish they could experience other religions more?

When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said "Let us pray." We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had our land. -- Desmond Tutu

I'm not asking if there's evidence of a god. I'm asking if there's evidence (actual evidence) that the bible is the word of god.

Because if there isn't, how could you possibly believe that the bible was divinely written? I'm sure it has great spiritual lessons and stories that promote good moral values, but it also says that anyone who doesn't believe Jesus is the son of god is going to burn in eternal hellfire.

How can you make major life decisions and judgments of people based on a book that is quite possibly (and most likely) just the word of some guy that was really spiritual (Jesus) and some other ordinary guys. Seriously. I really want an answer to these questions.

Is there ANY hard evidence that the bible is actually the word of god? If you can prove it to me, I'll convert.

Why would people "choose" to go against their own religion if homosexuality was a choice? Why are there devout Christians, Catholics, etc. who are openly gay? If it were really a choice, wouldn't the gays and lesbians who experience deep conflict between their religion and their sexuality "choose" to be straight?

ok usually I'm not one to believe in God or whatever right....but after I had my son I went through the harshest post whatever depression and when I was cleaning my house I found this little book and it was filled with all these lil sayings that just made absolute sense about everything I was feeling. I truly believe that finding that book saved my relationship with my son and well I'm kinda in need of it again but I have no idea where to find it.......its just a small pink floral book filled with quotes from the bible or something and on the page next to the quotes are how that person is feeling.........I have no idea if anyone can help but I though I would give it a try........thank you

Who was responsible for allowing such a backward religion as Christianity was and still is to contaminate the heart of the Roman Empire?
Europe, at the time, was the center of the world and the Middle East was a mere insignificant province of the Roman Empire inhabited by culturally inferior people; and it is a miracle that Christianity took roots in sacred Rome; and because of that foreign religion Europe took a dive into the Dark Ages for a 1000 years.
So much for Christianity.

Be both "historical' and fictional?

The Ha'Debar Elohim (the Bible) is geographically accurate, chronologically accurate, and is, if the supernatural aspects are excluded, historically accurate...

Archaeologists use the "Bible" as a means to find sites to dig.

There are many things in the "Bible" that are highly accurate and that modern science is just now finding out...

People used to say King David was a mythological figure until they found overwhelming evidence of his existence...It is the same for many people in the "Bible"...so please refer to the original question...

Accidentally came across this website www.sexinchrist.com This nut job is trying to convince people that the bible says it is ok to have anal sex before marriage, threesomes and S & M. You can leave a message but there is no way to find out where this site has come from. Does anyone know what religion he may have come from.( I'm assuming it's a man as most of his concepts are biased toward pleasure for the husband) I absolutely disagree with the website but my morbid curiosity of which possible religion it may be compels me to ask this question. What do you think about the site???? Would people believe that crap??NB. please do not go to this site if you are devoutly Christian and easily offended as some of his interpretations of bible scripture are obscene.

Everytime we do something they drive me crazy and i wind up getting upset and catching an attitude and I always tell myself that I wont do it again. For example, today we went to a Pumpkin lighting patch with different carved pumpkins, I started taking alot of photos, my Mom saw me yet she keeps walking ahead of me and i keep loosing her. I told her i want to take photos, she waits with me but then again walks far ahead. Then my brother brings up his friends from 20 yrs ago who i had a bad experience with and my whole night is ruined because i have bad flashbacks.
Then we go to the gift store and My mom is starring at a pen for 10 minutes debating if she should buy it. I walked away and looked around on my own.

I told her later, why did you keep walking ahead of me, she says because you didnt say you were taking pics, I said i told you and she says you have to keep telling me or else i wont know and you had me walking alone, I said you dont loo beside you?

I feel that a lot of people think if a mom or dad or friend teaches someone about their religion they are brainwashing them.
I feel the term brainwashing is used too much and too often incorrectly.
