People posting on this site frequently claim religious people are narrow minded, illogical, delusional, people that have no grasp of reality. The basis for this argument is usually along the lines of sarcastic remarks about tooth fairies, Santa Claus and other various insults.

The term reality, in its broadest meaning, incorporates all things, whether or not it is apparent or comprehensible. Reality in this sense includes physical and or spiritual beings. On the other hand, existence is often restricted to physical being and customarily compared with nature.

In understanding this, it makes more sense to say these people are narrow minded people that demonstrate their arrogance, or merely a lack of ability, to grasp things that are not apparent or comprehensible, but still within the very confines of our reality. Continuing along the same principles, these people demonstrate a level of perception limited to what is directly in front of them; unwillingness to accept anything that is not directly perceived is a completely illogical approach to understanding a reality that is not bound by the evident. Thus these people are in a completely delusional state, believing what exists is only something that can be seen, and something that is not seen cannot exist, falling extremely short of what our reality evidently is.

Denying the possibility of a power, that is not directly apparent or comprehensible and quite possibly greater then oneself, absolves these people of possibly having to conform to a certain set of doctrine. Does this then explain why so many of these people focus their attention on things such as evolution in order to understand their existence, and can only limit it to what is directly tangible? And understanding only that which is tangible, in a reality that encompasses both the tangible and the non-tangible, a limited understanding?

I have smoked cigars with friends in the past but I have no idea what brand they were. I know I like Mild-medium or medium flavored cigars, and the best one i ever smoked before was a Churchill or a double Corona although I don't know exactly what the length/gauge was. Any advice on brands and prices would be great!

So im in search of answer for myself. Should i believe in God or no?
If not then I should not really care what people have to say. But i have such a good heart. How do i explain that to myself?
BUt if there is a god, i dont think i wanna pick any other religion. Look at all the segregations going on in the world due to religions.
I want to hear the point of view of an athiest
And also If there is no god how would I feel if one of my loved onces becomes ill. Would I just say that she will be reincarnated? or its the philosophy of life?
I DONT think so!

My husbad and I are looking for a Christian or nondenominational church in the South Portland area. We are in the West Linn area. In our mid 20's. Rolling Hills is too big and the people seem to be going to church to make an appearance and to say they go to church. Any other suggestions though?

Thanks

I am a strong believer, but somehow not able to visualize the institution of religion with God. I believe, a religion is more of a tradition we follow varying according to geographical reasons (or is it obligatory?). Am I an Atheist?

For those who catogorize Jesus with the Easter Bunny, bare with me.
At the time of jesus, early 1st century...there is no mention of Jesus of the nazarene, the healer, the prophet, or the exorcist (as some believe). In fact, the only record of Jesus comes many decades after his alleged death, in a biography by Paul and John the baptist that is written through visions he had of Jesus after his death. If he was known to be a leader of religious movements and a defiant against the traditional pious leaders who led him to the crucifix....than why is there no recorded historical text? There are records of others (ie: john the baptist, the first to write about Jesus)....but wouln't there be some written evidence of Jesus during his stay on earth?

I've been looking at questions about Christianity that indicate a real and total blank slate of the Truth. Although I can understand the confusion with 30,000 different denominations all writing their own rules, does anyone wonder why the only ones who really have their theology and beliefs at their fingertips AND are confident about it are Catholic? Why do you think that Catholics know the answers so well? And, why is it that NON-Catholics seem to define who they are simply by saying how *not* Catholic they are. I am seeing MANY who define what they believe by simply pointing out what they don't believe of the Catholic faith. But, does that show us what nonCatholics believe? No! Does anyone understand that ignorance of what Catholics believe might be the root of the problem? To assume to know only makes an "a ss" out of "u" and "me". Can anyone say what they believe in their own particular denomination, without saying what they DON'T believe?
