originally because of the relief out of the problems which the pilgrim fathers overcame and from the mistaken belief that god had something to do with it - after that it was tradition just like bonfire day in the UK

When in Bluffton, SC, well, so you can have a oyster roast besides turkey and the trimmings...and when in anyplace else in the world, so you can be thankful for what you have...and enjoy turkey and all the trimmings. (You can be thankful in Bluffton too!!!)
