Like most Brits I tend to get the impression that Americans are obsessed with religion.

If this is true then is it possible for an individual to become an elected politican (or even President) if he/she is an atheist?

It claims that God cannot be seen in some parts but then says that God has been seen and the people have lived to tell. I know that some responses will say that I am reading out of context, but look for yourself at the lines: Ex 33:23, Ex: 33:11, Gen 32:20 and then look at John 1:18, Ex: 33:20, 1 Tim. 6:16.
I also know that some responses will be that I read it this way because I am already a disbeliever, are there any other ways to logically explain the numerous contradictions?

This is the website that I was looking at: http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html#god_seen

Over my short time of being able to 'tune in' to people, I've learned how to differentiate between my own feelings and others' feelings. Okay it sometimes gets difficult if there is a similarity, but usually I know.

So I'd like to know who it was (if anyone even knows) who just shared their ummmmm.. 'passionate encounter' with me.

This happened just now, so add about 5 - 10 minutes to the question's time, and you'll have when it happened.

Please I don't like the idea of empathically-induced threesomes, so in future keep your fun to yourselves!!

Having established that the slowing of the Earth's rotation is insufficient to prove it, since that the numbers used are a selective misreading of the source:
http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/leapsec.html ,

as the following statements are ignored to make the "proof":

"...it is possible to determine the average deceleration of the Earth to be roughly 1.4 milliseconds per day per century."

"The length of the mean solar day has increased by roughly 2 milliseconds since it was exactly 86,400 seconds of atomic time about 1.79 centuries ago (i.e. the 179 year difference between 1999 and 1820)." [This gives roughly 1.12 milliseconds per day per century.]

"The confusion arises because some mistake leap seconds for a measure of the rate at which the Earth is slowing. The 1 second increments are, however, indications of the accumulated difference in time between the two systems."

With this debunked, the question remains, what evidence of a Young Earth can Creationists provide?

I recently received some very informative answers to my last question (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070829053513AAl0GH0).

I'm going to try to dig at this subject a little deeper. Let me start with where I think we agree: there are some things which would be moral for one person to do, and immoral for another. For instance, it is immoral for an American to drive on the left side of the road (unless he is in England) but moral for an Englishman (unless he's in the states). The moral principle of not placing yourself and your fellow man in needless danger remains. This isn't really what a moral absolutist, such as myself, means by "moral absolutes".

Now, I've had people tell me morality is subjective, which seems odd to me; because as soon as you say "morality" you seem to be treating it like an object, assuming I know what the object you are talking about is. Any thoughts?

OR is an atheist someone who doesn't believe in at least one god? For example, if a person doesn't believe in Tāwhirimātea, the Māori god of weather (thunder, lightening, clouds, storms, wind, etc), is that person an "atheist" towards Tāwhirimātea?

I recently began talking to a new guy. We dig each other and things are going good for both of us, but last night we were walking to a bench we usually sit at and i spotted a bird. We noticed almost immediatley it was an owl. He tried to take a picture of it but it flew. I heard owls have to do with death. Should i worry about this or forget it? He's leaving this weakend for a vacation and i'm almost getting worried. Does anyone know more about this type of things? Should i look outside the box and worry about a family member? I don't know.. any advise will help.. thanks

I'm asking this because not all people believe that there is just a Heaven and a Hell. Some religions believe that there is a middle ground.

What are your personal beliefs?

i mean.. that's not the real question. but the claim "you have to believe in something" really grinds my gears. cause they're not talking about just believing in what we know to be true empirically. they're talking about something "divine" and then yes. why do we have to believe in something? there's a flaw in the logical thinking there. there's only the conclusion. and why does your life need a god to make sense? that's sad, cause if there's none (you gotta admit the possibility), then your life wouldn't have any sense at all. you gotta give your life sense, cause noone is gonna come and give sense to it for you.

My confidence in venturing into science lies in my basic belief that as in science so in Buddhism, understanding the nature of reality is pursued by means of critical investigation: if scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of science and abandon those claims.

I'm a Catholic, but i consider myself to be very liberal. I Believe sex before marriage is ok if its done out of love, not lust. And I have lots of gay/lesbian/bi friends, and i feel that they should be allowed to get married and be happy.
