It's an individual thing. I guess you'd have to ask each one. An article I read once was about teenage boys becoming prostitutes, and they simply had to learn to be comfortable with both middle-aged men and women, even if they much preferred hot young gals. But a contributor here some months ago was purely gay and said he hustled just so he could have sex with other guys (and make enough to live on). I suspect over all, it's just the money and who has it at the time, like in the movie "54". I guess it helps to be bisexual.

Being a sex worker of any kind often has little to do with the workers personal preferences or orientation. Their work is simple that, work, they do the job they do to titivate and satisfy others and not themselves. Personally, I think it takes a desperate and brave person to work in this way.
Many people who work in the porn industry, for instance, work on both sides of the orientation fence and yet identify themselves in terms of their own orientation, as a defined straight or gay person.

I had a straight male roommate once who said he'd once applied for a job at an "escort service". He said "but I'm straight...would there be work for me?" and was told that yes, plenty of straight guys worked there. "Oh what do they do?" "Well, you know same as the gay ones...and they make good money." So I guess he left at that point.
So my answer is some of each.

Most people who hire out for sex are sex workers.
This has nothing to do with their orientation - you are talking about sexual BEHAVIOR here.
Guys can have gay sex or straight sex, and it doesn't change their inborn orientation one bit.

personally i think they are gay people with depression or anxiety disorders that hinder them getting jobs so they resort to that to get out of a bad home life.
I doubt straight men would do it. i wudnt shag a woman for all the money in the world!
