Before the 'big'* religions hit the planet what did people do instead? Read stuff? Swim? talk about stuff? play twister?


*by 'big' religions I mean Christianity , Islam, Hinduism, and bhuddism.

Putting a Bible next to the bodies somehow made the crime less heinous???

When I wanted to get married the courthouse had to give me my marriage license. If you argue that civil union is a good compromise for gay couples because marriage is a religious institution then why would a hetero couple being married by a Judge be considered married? A church can decide if they want to marry but ultimately marriages are filed with states and dissolved by states. I say: Let all people marry. Thoughts?

I know a woman who upon finding out that her daughter was a lesbian, sent her to see the pastor of their church to help her to change her ways. She told her daughter that she could have nothing more to do with her girlfriend and that she would be disowned if she didn't go straight. This woman calls herself a good christian. What do you think?

Why can't we all just get along?

Why can't everybody educate themselves to every religion at hand so when they come to Yahoo! Answers R&S section, they can have a full-fledged intellectual conversation?

Why is it so hard for some to accept the fact that I DO believe in the Divine (God, Allah, Etc) --Just not in the way YOU believe in it?

Why is it so hard for some to understand that I am HAPPY in my beliefs?

Why can't you realize that you are not right, and neither am I when it comes to definte truth in religion or spirituality?

Why do you act as if you know your divine entity so well?
Isn't that egotistical?

How can you even begin to suggest you know it when you haven't REALLY connected with it, FOR YOURSELF, and actually EXPIERENCED the feeling that it gives you?

I believe the divine rests within the natural world...so whenever I am out in Nature, secluded, I am connected, in love, and I am happy. Why is that so hard to understand for some?

if not, then you're straight. gay people don't have any desire to be intimate with people of the opposite sex.

it's not something you can choose. it's like some people like very large women and some are repulsed by them. some people like very thin people while others are repulsed by them.

so do you have desire to be intimate with the same gender? and how do you fight it? or do you understand the point i'm trying to make?

I work as a waiter, and I work so hard and give the customers whatever they ask for so fast and always ready for thier orders . so they dont give tips! nevaaaa...., although I work in a 5 stars hotel restaurant, so they pay alot for being there . so why are they mean ?!!!?

My best friend is a very petite girl. Even though she is a wife with two kids, she can actually fit into little girls clothes if she wanted to. She has a lovely figure, but she is not really blessed in the chest department if you know what I mean. I see people make comments to her all the time about her not having any boobs. People she works with says things, people she is friends with...it's everywhere she goes. They usually say something jokingly and she usually makes a sly remark which is much more funny or she will pick something about them to pick on, but I know it really bothers her. I just wanted to see if anyone on here has had this happen to them a lot and what different things people have tried. To me, I just can't comprehend why people feel the need to point out something like that. It's just flat out rude!

First off, I do not like to use the word "slave." But that is what my friend used.

So here's the deal. My friend asked me to be her slave tomorrow. I'd have to do her chores, but I'd get $50 for it (and I've seen the money already and she always pays up on stuff like this). So basically, I'd get to her house at 7:00 AM sharp. One downside, she likes her "workers" (me) to dress well when they "work" for her. So I would have to come in my school uniform, and cannot untuck my shirt. She would then put leg irons on my leg so I could not walk off the job. I would do her household chores until 11:30. Then she'd handcuff my hands in front of me and let me go home (I live less than a block away) to rest and get lunch. I'd have to be back at 1:00 sharp. The handcuffs would come off, then I'd have to do yard work until 4:00. My leg irons would then come off, and I'd have to do some tasks for her. I'd have to pick something up at the store and mail a package (still in my uniform). I'd have to come back with the receipts to be repaid for this. After that, I would have my leg irons back on and clean her pool. At about 7:00, I'd go home with $50. But if I leave or quit before then, I lose $50. So is it worth it? Should I do it? What can go wrong? By the way, I'm only 14, so I can't get a "real" job.

If marriage is a religious institution, than I believe a church should have the option to marry and not marry, who they choose.

However, if two consenting adults want to enter into a partnership recognized by the government...call it union, or marriage, whatever...in order to have the same rights and priviledges as heterosexual married couples, why does this concern you? Homosexual couples pay equal, if not more, in taxes than heterosexual couples, so shouldn't they be granted the same right to marry/partnership with the person they love?

What would be wrong with having a civil marriage recognized by the government for all...and a religious marriage which is left up to the church to decide?

Wouldn't this be the humane compromise?

We are going to a camp in August. It is a family camp and you have to have a Christmasy theme. The camps all around theme is Christmas in August. Anything girly would be great but anything with christmas. Because we have to make a "theme song" for our family!

I think it would really be helpful if people could read how you overcome your gay lust and choose a straight life instead.

One of my friends always says wicked demanding stuff like "tell so-and-so that you called everyone about the party" or "come this way" when we're walking in the store. Why do so many people insist on a literal approach to scripture? Do you know that as far back as the Middle Ages people understood that a Biblical passage could have several meanings? (the Jewish people have always had a more interpretive understanding of scripture)Why does it seem people in our age want to concretize everything? And Atheists, I'm not letting you off the hook either! You like to take the literal interpretation of creation, Noah's ark, etc...and then dismiss it as false. Do people understand there are many ways to study and read the Bible??? I need a drink!

Wouldn't it show more honesty and integrity to tell people what you believe right off instead of slowly introducing the weird doctrines AFTER you have gotten people to join? If your doctrines are true and beneficial, what do you have to lose by not stating them up front?

I work for a large company, we have been informed that our health benefits will be reduced because many of our fellow workers are overweight, smoke and are not getting enough exercise creating rising costs to manage everyones healthcare.
Our company wants to use our restroom facilities to advertise healthfull motivational messages to encourage people to make positive changes in their lives, including talking paper towel dispensers and posters with the hope of improving their work forces health and reducing their health insurance costs while maintaining the same care and benefit levels.
Some people object to this so-called invasion of their privacy in their sacred breakrooms and restrooms.
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS COMPANIES POLICIES. your opinions are very very important.. Thank you.
