I'm no longer Christian; however, it's pretty clear how many fellow "Christians" would care if you didn't dress up.

"It's to show respect for God!" No, that symbol only has meaning if you make it so. The Christian God would not care about such a thing unless you were trying to show disrespect through it.

Just about churches let you wear what you like. Dressing up, as I was taught, was not for the church, but out of respect for God. I do dress for church, but what ever anyone else wears is their business!

Surely God's too busy to care if you have on a dress and pantyhose!!!

No, mine doesn't. But I work with the music not only in my own church, but sometimes in others as well, and in some of those churches, I'm expected to dress up. It's a relief to come back to my own church, where I can wear jeans without being looked down upon.

There is no dress code when we go to worship. But I think that how we dress should show reverence to God and his place of worship. Worshiping him is the most dignified, honorable thing we can do with our time. You can't even go into a convenience store without shoes on. So, shouldn't our dress should reflect that we are engaging in something of honor when we go to our places of worship? Wouldn't you dress up if you were going to have dinner with George Bush or Bill Clinton? Why would we do anything less than that when we go to worship God?

We are encouraged to dress up because it shows reverance to God. However, it is not a requirement.

It is disrespectful to God not to dress in a nice appearance. You do not have to spend a lot of money to dress nicely.

1 Timothy 2:9, 10 states that women (and by extension men as well) should "adorn themselves...in a way that befits [those] professing to reverance God".

No. I think it's ridiculous to make people dress up. We go to worship the Lord not for a fashion show. However, modest is hottest. I've seen some people enter the building dressed as if they're ready to go clubbing...that needs to be addressed.

You don't have to dress up at my church. And not everyone goes to church to hear the message of the lord.

I was a catholic from a small town, and it wasn't required by any means. Some did, some didn't. I think many looked on it as a chance to get dressed up, since living in a small town doesn't afford many opportunities to put on your "Sunday finest" so to speak.

A true Christian church ought to be more concerned about spiritual things. Our church says nothing about how folks dress! PTL

Come as you are says the Lord... Any church that has anything negative to say about what you are wearing isn't a good church.
