Is chivalry really dead?

I find that hard to believe, as I was always brought up in a world where guys
open doors,
help you carry your stuff,
walk on the outside (of the sidewalk),
go down the stairs a step ahead of you,
push your chair in,
stand up when you rise
offer their seat to women or elderly people

Maybe I am a romantic, but it sure feels great when a guy does that for you ;)

the beetles were lined vertically up my bare arms with perfect striaght lines of skin showing so that the beetles did not touch each other and the beetles were horizonal across my shirt on my chest. when i tried to brush the beetles off my arms some of the heads stayed in my skin.

except from getting drunk - are they still getting punished like in the old days the way their prophet did it to his followers, as we see in this story?

In his book, part 8, pp. 196, 197, the Bukhari says:

"The prophet’s custom was to beat the drunkard with palm branches and sandals. When a drunkard was brought to him, he ordered his companions to beat him with their hands, sandals and robes. One of Muhammad’s companions by the name of al-Sa’ib ibn Yazid says, ‘We used to bring the drunkard before the apostle of God and during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and in the first stage of the caliphate of ’Umar, and we would beat him with our hands, sandals and robes. During the last part of ’Umar’s caliphate, he ordered us to flog him eighty times"’ (refer to ibn Timiyya, volume 28, page 336; and the book of the Sunna and its Significance, by Dr. M. Yusuf, page 29).

What brutality to see Muhammad and his followers rise against the drunkard to beat him altogether at the same time.

I am getting married in 2008, and still need to make my confirmation. I want to get married in a catholic church and cant unless i have completed the class. I called one church and they tol me it takes 2 years????? But i have heard of people making it in 6 months? Help what should I do?

I am a born again christian. I believe in god and his word, but I cant seem to stick to it. I want to stop doing some of the things that I feel is causing me to not have a relationship with him. I do many un holy things, but now I feel its time I put those things aside and get my relationship back with the lord. How do i gain my relationship with him even if I am a christian?

Actually did come from India?

Because I've seen that we hispanics and the Hindu Indians do share a lot of the facial features.

Culturally we are different, but in appearance we sort of do resemble each other.
I mean Christopher Columbus did started calling them Indians for a reason.

I get tired of using "he/she" or "him/her" when I'm writing about a single ambiguous person. We can use "they" or "them" when we're talking about groups of people, but we really need a gender-neutral pronoun for a single person! And we can't say "it" without being insulting.

Anyone know why we don't have a word that means "he/she"? It'd be really handy if we did! What word could we use? Any ideas?

First up, hold the hate mail: I'm a breeder that's very friendly with the LGBT community, and this is an actual question in two parts. The topic came up with friend the other night, so I thought I'd post it here.

1) Gay men are "gays", gay women are "lesbians," but "gay rights" are rights for all homosexuals. Is there a commonly accepted gender specific word to indicate a homosexual male that would be analogous to lesbian?
I've polled friends, and come up shy. The closest we've come is "fag" or "poof" but those have rather specific (and not always pleasant) connotations.

2) In the name of equality, what kind of derogatory names are there for heterosexuals?
Again, we found ourselves lacking. There are a few, but none seem to carry any weight. They're like calling a farmer a redneck.

As a note, this isn't meant to start a flame war, anyone getting out of hand or posting religious banter will gleefully be reported.

Well if anyone has ever read my answers to Christian related questions you would see that at that time I was lost as to who Jesus really is. The revelation of who Jesus is came to me last night and I have peace that I never new was possible. I know that Jesus is not Lucifer, just a fairy tale, just a prophet, He is God in the flesh. He is my salvation. I died and yet I am alive in that I am born again. Jesus is more alive now then ever before in that he lives in me as he does in all Christians. I was told, or had the impression that some one prayed for me. Thanks!
