First up, hold the hate mail: I'm a breeder that's very friendly with the LGBT community, and this is an actual question in two parts. The topic came up with friend the other night, so I thought I'd post it here.

1) Gay men are "gays", gay women are "lesbians," but "gay rights" are rights for all homosexuals. Is there a commonly accepted gender specific word to indicate a homosexual male that would be analogous to lesbian?
I've polled friends, and come up shy. The closest we've come is "fag" or "poof" but those have rather specific (and not always pleasant) connotations.

2) In the name of equality, what kind of derogatory names are there for heterosexuals?
Again, we found ourselves lacking. There are a few, but none seem to carry any weight. They're like calling a farmer a redneck.

As a note, this isn't meant to start a flame war, anyone getting out of hand or posting religious banter will gleefully be reported.

"Gay" is an adjective. for some reason I have yet to determine, I get REALLY uncomfortable when it's used as a noun. Furthermore, as an adjective, it's not gender specific. Thing is, because it's not gender specific, people automatically started thinking about it in terms of male. I have no problem with "gay men and lesbians" which is what I most often hear.

As for names for straights: if it's men, tuna-toucher. Vulgar, yes, but...isn't that the point? Or, I always like to just stick with "filthy, disgusting heterosexuals" when it applies.

1.) OK the infamous gay vs. lesbian label controversy. Using Gay as a blanket term for all sexual minorities is not proper. It creates a male dominated system in which the status of women and other sexual minorities (bi-sexual and transgendereds) are lowered to a level in which they are not even included. The proper term should be "G.L.B.T. Rights" or "Sexual Minorities Rights". Now to answer you question there is no term that I am aware of for gay men that is equivalent to lesbian other than gay.

2.) Breeders and Homophobic is about as derogatory as it gets for both heterosexual women and men. Breeder being used as a way of say that the only good thing heterosexuals are good for is to create more gays. And Homophobic being used as an equivalent to redneck (IE closed minded and prejudice).

Now there are a few terms directed to heterosexual women such as Fag Hag. Which is a very unhappy heterosexual women who only has gay male friends and incapeable of sustaining a relationship with a hertosexual man and tries to "cure" gay men. And the term Fish which really can be used for all women including lesbians. It refers to a smell comming from a women's genatelia.

For heterosexual men there is usally some general insinuation that they are only pretending to be striaght and with very little work any gay man can get him in bed. Example: "That closet case ain't fooling nobody!!!"

1. I'm unaware of any gender specific word that refers to a gay man that isn't derogatory.

2. The only one I can think of is "breeder," which, as you said, doesn't really seem to carry much weight.
