No, not inappropriate...
For some people it is not that common anymore. At least that's what I've noticed in my own country and the countries I've visited.
We shouldn't confuse "equal rights" with respect. I, for one, will hold the door open if someone has his/her hands full or can't open the door... My hand won't fall off
When a gentleman does one of these things for me, it makes me think that not all is lost

I don't find it inappropriate.
The problem I have with the concept of the man always opening the door for the woman is that it's somehow supposed to be showing respect for us. But there is so much evidence that women are discriminated against in so many other ways in society, that having people open the door for us out of "respect for womanhood" seems like hollow "lip service" in a way.
But if he opens the door because I'm another human being and he wants to make my life easier because he's a kind person, I'm all for it. And I try to open doors for people when I have the opportunity as well.

I always hold the door open for a lady unless my hands are full and hers are not. In a case like that I am not offended if she holds the door open for me!
Another issue that may affect holding a door open is which way the door opens. I personally do not like to stand in the middle of the door way holding open a "push" door since it gives the person walking through the door less than full access to the doorway. Once again, if a lady (particularly a younger one) pulls open a door and holds it for me I thank her. The rule "Age before beauty" applying here.

This is absolutely not inappropriate! It's charming and considerate and I applaud all guys who still do these things. Keep up the good work and remember that if a woman acts offended by you just being a gentleman, then that's HER problem, not yours.
In an age where manners are on the decline and rudeness seems to be the norm, it's really nice and refreshing to meet men who are considerate and respectful.

I agree! A man should always open the door for a woman, i've come to expect it. I think men still do things like that but some of the younger ones need to have better manners.

I personally think that if a guy doesn't open the door for you or pull out your chair at dinner, etc. He is either really just not that into you. Men ought to be attentive to their women - just because the feminist movement happened, it doesn't mean we don't want to be treated with anything less than respect. If a man respects you, he will open doors etc - if not, is he really worth your time? Just ask yourself that question before proceeding. (In other words.... MEN GET A CLUE!

Certainly, good manners is always in order - for gents or ladies. However, behavior of both men and women has changed for the worse.
If women today were behaved more like they did back during the "Age of Chivalry", they would more often be the recipients of such chivalrous treatment.
Many women today are sharp tongued, "in your face", and harsh - such behavior is unlikely to be rewarded with chivalry.

It's absolutely NOT inappropriate for a man to open the door for you! My husband still opens doors for me. He also helps me on with my coat, and will offer me his arm if the parking lot or sidewalk is slippery.

No, they should or if you go through a door first hold it open behind you for them. etiquette seems not to be taught much anymore. but both sexes should show respect for each other. I would give up my seat for an elderly or disabled male

It's their duty as a man! Being helpful is a way to demonstrate power and a way to show that they like you (when they are flirting) they care for you (if you are the mother, sister, daughter or wife) It's not inappropriate in anyway.
