except from getting drunk - are they still getting punished like in the old days the way their prophet did it to his followers, as we see in this story?

In his book, part 8, pp. 196, 197, the Bukhari says:

"The prophet’s custom was to beat the drunkard with palm branches and sandals. When a drunkard was brought to him, he ordered his companions to beat him with their hands, sandals and robes. One of Muhammad’s companions by the name of al-Sa’ib ibn Yazid says, ‘We used to bring the drunkard before the apostle of God and during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and in the first stage of the caliphate of ’Umar, and we would beat him with our hands, sandals and robes. During the last part of ’Umar’s caliphate, he ordered us to flog him eighty times"’ (refer to ibn Timiyya, volume 28, page 336; and the book of the Sunna and its Significance, by Dr. M. Yusuf, page 29).

What brutality to see Muhammad and his followers rise against the drunkard to beat him altogether at the same time.

Alcohol is forbidden in Islam and every Muslim has to avoid what is forbidden. Islam has punishments for those who commit crimes. Imagine if Islam was lenient as all the other religions and let the criminals run freely, then nobody would take or follow Islam seriously. When something is forbidden by your Creator, you avoid it. Period. You don't try to fool around or make excuses or call it something harsh. For Allah (God) knows what's best for His Servants and He is Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind. He Forgives those who repent to Him. But those who don't repent and commit sins, they will be punished! That's why Muslims are cautious and always turning to Allah for help!

Dr. M. Yusef is a very knowledgeable writer on Islamic matters but I would take this statement with a pinch of salt.
What does the Holy Quran have to say about punishment for alcoholics?
Remember, the political followers of Mohammad made lots of evil laws and said that they were commanded by Allah to do so. Flogging alcoholics may well be a a traditional act and may have nothing to do with true Islam.
Correct me if am wrong.

Haha are they rising against a drunkard? Say it again that was funny. Alcohol is big no no in Islam, until you understand that you won't understand those actions.

We don't want to happen to Islam what happened to Christianity and Judaism(i.e. get destroyed)

They could not reach Paradise and their awaiting 72 virgins as they would be too intoxicated to perform. Even the flowing rivers of milk and honey would not be helpful to them. Plus, there is supposedly no alcohol in heaven so they would probably go in delerium tremens. Call the ambulances....

The accumulate sin, you have to remember if you in a Non-Muslim country you cannot implement Shariah Law. Shariah Law only applies in Muslim lands, and can only be administered by the Religious Leaders or people they appoint.

I think that they get beaten or their hands getchopped off.

“When you meet the unbelievers, strike off their heads; then when you have made wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives.” (Quran47.4).

"And when the sacred months are passed, kill those who join other gods with God [i.e. moshrekin.] wherever ye shall find them; and seize them, besiege them, and lay wait for them with every kind of ambush: but if they shall convert, and observe prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their way, for God is Gracious, Merciful."(Quran 9:5)

Alcohol is just yet another tool of Satan. He uses it so that people lower their inhibitions and do not make wise judgments. He uses alcohol to numb the conscience and to go against the spirit. Islams are already walking in sin, when they add alcohol to it...it is scary what they may be capable of doing. Many preverse and evil deeds.

Nothing happens to them. Fanatic Muslims go to extreme measures for forbidden behavior all the time, but I have never ever heard of anything, even minor, happening to a Muslim for drinking.

And lots of them do, by the way.
