I won't even begin to go into someone posting a historically documented fact about a religion and having people tell them they are wrong. My example will be: Last week sometime, in reply to a question, I posted a portion of the First Amendment. Nothing else. It was another one of those "Why doesn't America ban X religion" posts.

And then I got a message telling me that freedom of religion was made up.

Is it just lack of education? Is it refusal to see anything outside your own point of view? What is it?

has your time spent on these boards changed or altered you as a person in regards to your faith ?

please note i am not asking if you have changed your beliefs ...
but have you relaxed a little more in life where once you may have been a little held back with fear or whatever it was ?
or has it been the opposite ... where you once quite laid back but now have adopted a stricter lifestlye due to beliefs and things said to you yahoo ?
whatever the case ... if you have changed in any small or big way
i would love to hear it

Ok, so I am considering being lesbian as a way to belong. I don't mean to make this a socio-political issue that stirs people up (so please don't make it). It's just a personal expression and I feel somewhat vulnerable being so open... When I was young and foolish, I dated white guys, to see how I fit in the culture. But I know at least where I am, white people are the majority and the old class haven't fully opened to asians. Asian opinion prompts "Well, if you're don't agree, go back to your country" sort of replies. So, can't have an opinion openly w/o being put in my place as a foreigner I feel like a loner in a majority world. I am struggling to find belonging in this society. I don't want to be further marginalized by being lesbian, but I know I can find community within the smaller culture of lesbians. I want empowerment as a woman, not asian! I want people to see me for who I AM, not see my face! Ok, I am not depressed. I am fine. But at times, I feel down about it all

I am a happily married woman and deeply in love with my husband. I have never had feelings for a woman, or desired to be in a relationship with one. However, I sometimes fantasize about messing around with a woman in front of my husband. Does having sexual fantasies about women make me bisexual, or does being bi-sexual mean that you can be in LOVE WITH either sex?

The Noble Qura’n:

Allah obliterates usury but makes charity grow in value! Allah does not love any persistently ungrateful wrongdoer. (2:276)

Those who practise usury will not rise from the grave except as someone driven mad by Satan's touch. That is because they say, ‘Trade is the same as usury.’ But Allah has permitted trade and He has forbidden usury. Whoever is given a warning by his Lord and then desists, can keep what he received in the past and his affair is Allah’s concern. But all who return to it will be the Companions of the Fire, remaining in it timelessly, for ever. (2:275)

Just wondering what you are planning for the holiday... celebrate with others? If you're a sloitary... at home? out-doors? Any special traditions?

I'm thinking of celebrating alone this year in a local wooded area where I've spent time before, getting close to the Goddess. I'll bring a portable altar I have, incense etc, and my own cake and ale (or grape juice). I used to make Pumpkin Cheesecake for this time of year, for a group I celebrated with, but it's 30 miles away, and I've been unable to drive. So I'm celebrating alone this year.

"The Earth is round"
I'm reading from
http://www.miraclesofthequran.com/scientific_15.html
It claims the Koran reveals that the Earth is round with this verse

He has created the Heavens and the Earth for Truth. He wraps the night up in the day, and wraps the day up in the night. (Qur'an, 39:5)

The author then elaborates how this is a MIRACLE by saying

"However, it should be remembered that the understanding of astronomy of the time perceived the world differently. It was then thought that the world was a flat plane and all scientific calculations and explanations were based on this belief."

So I checked with SCIENCE and found
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth

"By the time of Pliny the Elder (1st century) at the latest, however, the Earth's spherical shape was generally acknowledged among the learned in the western world. At that time Ptolemy derived his maps from a curved globe and developed the system of latitude and longitude (see clime)."

Miracle...or?

More info: We are NOT religious. My original plan was to expose our children to both cultures and holidays without formal religious schooling. I want to do this...the issue is that my husband wants to baptize our kids but I am not sure we are allowed to do that with me not catholic. Anyone know what goes on with this?
