I won't even begin to go into someone posting a historically documented fact about a religion and having people tell them they are wrong. My example will be: Last week sometime, in reply to a question, I posted a portion of the First Amendment. Nothing else. It was another one of those "Why doesn't America ban X religion" posts.

And then I got a message telling me that freedom of religion was made up.

Is it just lack of education? Is it refusal to see anything outside your own point of view? What is it?

The truth is they are not willing to recognize the Sovereignty of God.

It's the 'self'/ego. Once a belief has become so interwoven with someone's identity and world view, questioning it is very difficult. And even if it's not part of someone's foundation, if the person is in the habit of attaching to any belief or opinion and making it a part of themselves, any disagreement will be seen as attack. When identity is involved -- especially when it's part of one's foundation -- no fact or reason will EVER sway someone. You could literally have someone witness an event daily that contradicts their belief system and it would take MONTHS for the person to come to the point where they didn't deny it.

Well, the problem is, each denomination thinks that its particular beliefs are the facts. But anyone looking at this chaotic situation from the outside recognizes immediately that many of the beliefs so vehemently fought over are in fact wrong. The casual observer might not be able to identify just which beliefs are wrong. But any reasonable person realizes that two conflicting beliefs cannot both be objectively correct. And when you have thousands of conflicting beliefs, that necessarily makes for an awful lot of false beliefs. Which is why Jesus condemned the idea of denominations, and insisted that all men belong to the one Church He personally founded.

Not only do they refuse to see anything outside their own point of view, but they get mad if you try to get them to even explain their point of view. They really don't have a clue. They just believe what they have been taught. For someone to say that freedom of religion is just made up, knows squat about the history of Europe and the founding of the United States. I don't waste my time with people full of themselves and empty of knowledge. They speak and give away how stupid they really are. They try to cover it up by being nasty. That is all they've got.

I recently got into an argument with an atheist. Even though I should have turned the other cheek it did, indeed, become an argument. And, of course, there was no victory for either one of us. We live in a land, thank God, in which we are free to worship as we please, or not at all. It's a shame that our constitution was written mostly by men who believed in God, but it is increasingly being used to irradicate that very God those men worshiped.

It is the nature of bigots to refuse and accept reality, and to try and remake it according to their silly views.

Now, if I could only weave a spell to chase stupidity off the world, but not even Ceridwen and the Horned One working together could do that.

They are like that because you are showing them that their old beliefs were wrong. They don't like being wrong. Esp. if they have believed something for many years.. they want to hang on to their beliefs. So you show them the truth. Guess who they will be angry with ? You. That's the state of the human nature. It's sad. Good Luck ! :)

Because it threatens everything they believe in and they can not accept fact because their beliefs are wrong. And some of them are really radical. See how people judge. I got a negative response from someone, probably a radical Christion.

The human brain is not designed to see 'absolute truth'. Rather it is designed to help the individual maximize their reproductive success.

People attribute their successes to their own positive traits while attributing their failures to external factors.

Take a simple fact and place it in front of two opposing parties (be they Democrat/Republican, Christian/Muslim, et. all) and watch in horror as each party spins the facts to their own purposes.

Human nature is not pretty.

Facts scare people because they are unwavering. I commend you on posting a response that included your source for how or what you believe.

Facts to some people are the equivalent of saying "because I said so." You just can't argue with them.

We got some crazies in here. All kinds. Sometimes the more factual your answer, with citations included, the more bitter the response. People like to choose their reality.
