45Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.

Leviticus 25:45 (King James Version)

Now, I'm no "liberal theologian" but upon a plain reading of that verse, it looks like its saying its ok to own children as slaves.

I don't think that makes a whole lot of sense, something about that just isn't "right".

Now, how come there has never been an answer - a credible one - to the question, whats wrong with this verse?

He has no values or morals. I want to forget him. He is disrespectful and rude and I let myslef get too close to him. I don't need advice because I will let time heal. This is more of a "learn by example." If you crave someone, it is wrong. You should be comfortable and not depedent of him because you will get used in the the end. He will use you for something and to his benefit. The best advice is be independent and work individually.

I lived in Co. for 14 years of my life. In those 14 years I never really had any complaints about Christianity. All the Christians in my life I looked up to. Like my grandparents that took in pregnant teens, preached to people in jail, and sometimes giving them a place to stay once they got out of jail.
At 14 I moved to North Carolina. Part of the bible belt and as some joke “the belt buckle”. I figured being in religious state people would be very kind people and generous. Boy was I wrong! Not that I am saying all Christians are horrible people. However some of the most rudest, nasty, and unforgiving people I have met have been “Christians”.
Which leads me to the term “Christian when convenient aka CWC”. It's been questioned on here why Christians get a worse rapt then other religions. I believe it is because of these CWCs. It is true that in every religion there is someone who takes it to the extreme or doesn't practice what they preach.

Theres always that one Christian who says "you don't know what you are talking about".

So, why not. What about the fact that most of us are ex christians.

Tell you what, what if we found a group of ex christian ministers or priests or something like that, a group who had their divinity degrees, and they were to point out the same problems with the Bible,

would it still garner the attack "you don't know what you are talking about".

See, I notice Christians are quick to attack the perceived threat, but I wonder why there isn't a defense of the God/Bible whatever thing they believe.

I would contend that Atheism, the presumption of Atheism, would be able to survive the attack "you don't know what you are talking about" any day of the week, anywhere, anytime.

In the Bible it says that Eve had three sons. Her first son Cain killed his little brother Able. After Able she had Seth. Then it says Cain and Seth left Adam and Eve, and married women and had children. How is this possible if Adam and Eve were the first two people?

I have recently taken up vegetarianism. I found this quote by John Harris:

"Suppose that tomorrow a group of beings from another planet were to land on Earth, beings who considered themselves as superior to you as you feel yourself to be to other animals. Would they have the right to treat you as you treat the animals you breed, keep and kill for food?" --John Harris (1946- )

I do NOT intend for this to be a discussion of vegetarianism, of extra-terrestrial life, but simply to be a discussion of this hypothetical question. If advanced aliens landed on Earth, and started "taming us" for meat, and slaughtering us and eating us, would it be okay?

Preface: I am a Christian and I firmly believe in the Trinity and its basis in Scripture. But this is an issue some should consider.

1 John 5:7 in context reads: 7 So we have these three witnesses 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood – and all three agree.

This is a classic prooftext for the Trinity, but verse 7 is dubious. Can anyone explain why?

Three weeks ago, a crush of mine (2 years long, but he denied being gay/bi) came out to me and told me that he liked me and that he's liked me for a long time.At the time,I had pretty much gotten over him and I didn't really feel much for him. However,I let my self build up my feelings for him and we started our relationship. In the beginning,he told me I had to keep it secret, and I thought that would be fine.As time went on,I realized that would be pretty hard since I'm completely out and he has this image being an extremely religious catholic(which he is),so us being together at school would be suspicious.Unfortunately the only time either of us had to see each other was at school.I couldn't bear to keep it secret,so I asked him if he was ready for this.He told me he wasn't sure. Now out of nowhere he is ignoring me and the last thing I heard from him was "There's someone else..it's god" through a text message. How can I explain to him that us being together won't get him sent to hell?

I have never cut my hair. Never worn anything other than long skirts/dresses, Longish sleeved shirts, split skirts, etc. I have never drank, never smoked, never done drugs. I do not swear, I have always believed in abstinace before marriage, I do not own a T.V., and I did not become a Christian until 4 years ago... Yet some persist in thinking that because I attend a pentecostal church I am a legalist... Why?

Imitation is a hinderance to human progress. But the independent investigation of truth is a tremendously difficult job! Most of us don't like new ideas, new cultures, new environments. We want all things to be stable as in "the golden old days". Some individuals who make wonderful discoveries are considered as rare saints, angels, supermen...!
It is time now for humanity to reach collective maturity, so the seeking of truth is no longer exclusive to some individuals, but to all of us. Perhaps, the Internet is an instrument pointing to the path of truth.

"He (Baha’u’llah) lays stress on the search for Truth. This is most important, because the people are too easily led by tradition. It is because of this that they are often antagonistic to each other, and dispute with one another.
But the manifesting of Truth discovers the darkness and becomes the cause of Oneness of faith and belief: because Truth cannot be two! That is not possible."
(Abdu'l-Baha, Abdu'l-Baha in London, p. 27)
