I think the reason was because he wanted the woman to be mans companion. Probably best to take a rib from the man than from the dirt for that reason. Good Luck! :)

I have never seen so many stupid answers to such a reasonable question. The reason Jehovah God created Eve from Adam's rib, and not from the soil, was so the entire human race (including Eve) would be the product of one person--Adam. The name Adam is from a Hebrew word that means "soil."

That is the "why", from the rib ... rather than another part of the body. Not from the soil, because this was to demonstrate how very close the two of them were.
Of course some will dispute the idea that Eve was formed from Adam's rib. The doubters point out ... so, why aren't men missing a rib. Just think, though .... if you had your appendix removed when you were six years old .... then later you get married and have children, they still have their appendixes.

Lillith was created 100% equal, in the same manner as adam, and she ran off when he wouldn't let her always be on top.
so Eve was made out of adam, as to be slightly subordinate, and more intimate/attached.
of course, thats not to say women would be lesser people, or anything like that, but simply different roles and distinctly separate in nature.
edit: I've never bought this "lillith was made from filth" stuff. that just doesn't make any sense. it seems like just a way to make her seem wholely evil or something in a more disgusting way thats just not needed or appropriate. I'd say "demonizing" but considering... lol, it might be a little cliche.

Adam was Male and Female starting out. It didn't work, so GOD put Adam to sleep and took out the Female Part and made Woman (Womb Man).
Thats why men have Breast.

so he would feel like a part of him was missing and look for it and be whole again when he finds her.
so he would remember to treat her as good as himself because she is a part of him, if he hurts her its like hitting himself and breaking his own rib,which would not be very smart!
to be by his side and near his heart. and feel his pain.
so they would be compatible? hmmmmmmmm,if ya find the right rib guys.
