Most times in the first few minutes, my concentration is there but after a while i see my self having other thoughts in my mind and i start thinking about other things. This happens even when i go to church and am listening to the sermon.

how can ANYONE say "It was God's will" when horrendous things happen like little Amish kids getting lined up against a blackboard and executed? That's what their parents are saying. I hear it all the time, you know, people get killed by a drunk drivers and their families say "God wanted him" or "It was his time". How is that comforting? And if God has the power to stop something like that happening, why doesn't he do it? It baffles me..

A colleague and I have this bet, he claims it's ONE word and I say it's TWO different words.

Different dictionaries treat it differently, so we decided to leave it in the hands of Yahoo Answerers.

Thanks in advance!

I thought I read it in some Catholic book but I can’t be sure. Or were there any Saints who said anything similar – maybe St. Augustine? Ages ago, in Sunday school, my teacher told me that if a person were isolated in a desert for a prolonged period, he would go beyond a primate’s survival instincts and he would eventually build a shrine. Is that a realistic story? Does Man really gravitate naturally to his God, even without external influence? Does mankind consider spirituality essential or is it a luxury? Compare it to love. Love is not essential to survival – however, the absence of love would, without fail, lead to dysfunctional behaviour, to some degree or other. And f.y.i., I am not confusing religion with spirituality; neither am I implying that religion means Christianity. And this is not a question asking ‘why do atheists do such and such’. This is about man’s spiritual nature. I hope there are Catholics out there who have my answers. Thanks

Let's face it - the Yanks are cr@p at it (they don't know boll0cks) and nearly all European sportspersons resort to English for a good torrent of abuse. Even the French - all they've got is merde. I think the Aussies are pretty close, but they lose marks for things like "strewth" and "gallah". I've thought about this long and hard - and producing chavs and profanity are the only things we can still claim to be world leaders at.

What I want to make certain of, though, is that there isn't some other language, like Swahili, for example, that's going to turn out to have better a swearing vocabulary.

So if you know of a language that can outdo the likes of tw@t, bugg@r, fcuk, c unt, b0ll0cks and shite, please let me know.

It seems to me that the only reason we can look at a man-made artefact and conclude that it is designed, is that we have natural, non-designed things to compare it to. If we dig up a clay object, and it is shaped in such a way that it can contain a liquid, and it has protruding loops which are convenient to hold on to, and it has been subjected to high temperatures, we can reasonably conclude that it is a man-made pot, because the chance of such a thing occurring naturally, without intelligent design, is pretty small. We are working on the assumption that the natural things we compare this pot to are non-designed, and that's how we can tell the difference.

Similarly if we find a lump of flint with a continuous chipped sharp edge all along one side, making it useful for cutting meat, whilst the other side is smooth and rounded, making it comfortable to hold in a human hand, we can reasonably conclude it was designed.

So, does this show that the natural world is non-designed?

…and all the other crimes under the law that heterosexuals and other people commit, they are going to be just fine in the afterlife? We're already in Hell from the way that homophobic heterosexuals have made it for us here on Earth. Some gaypeople out there feel as if they do not have any value or worth because of the current climate while others remain subservient, unflattering, unappealing, and/or unbecoming. But, hey, do what you want!

That you don't have already, it should be from the top of list.

Me -- I want 2 set of round trip tickets (Toronto-Barbados & Toronto-Prague)
A laptop with wireless connection (one that detects connection nearby), has to be a fast one, too
Money
Neat clothes
A brand new PC computer

I know those are a lot to ask for, but I'm just letting you know what I wish to have. :)

Now, your turn to spit out your Christmas list.

I was offered a job as a general clerk in an advertisement inside the newspaper.I went for an interview for the first day and thankfully i've got a call the next morning for a second interview and the manager congrats me saying that i've got the job but suddenly he ask me to follow this young lady for job training. She ask me to ride in her car along with other 2 trainees and told us that all that we had to do is just helping with holding some stuffs when we get somewhere around the town and just watch what she's doing as part of the training. Then i realize that the job they gave to us is actually not as a general clerk but it's actually a direct selling lessons because we were thought to sell these items with the company's name on it..All i had to do is run away silently and the lady with the other trainees not even aware of it.I ride a cab home safely. The company have been trying to contact me for a few days but i just ignore them. So,did any of you had these same experience?

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.
