Hi. I am an amateur translator. I just started it. I am supposed to translate a novel called "A singular man", but there are some that confuses me. could you help me?

What does " stand him to a drink" means?
And what does" I would have wound up in the position I so dreaded, that of the person who des all the paying" means?

When I am trying to understand English, I approach to it grammatically not naturally. That is why I am poor at English.

This is what happened in my dream. I'm by the coast and there is a naval fleet out in the bay. I didn't know what city it was, but I knew I was in the U.S. because everyone spoke English without an British or Australian accent. Then I saw seven American fighter planes flying in a V formation over head as if they were doing a drill or something. But a minute later, they started bombing the fleet and then crashing there planes into the ships like kamikaze pilots. The explosions lighten up the water with commotion while the people watching scream "the fleet is being attacked, the fleet is being attacked"! Soon all of the planes have crashed and everyone is panicking, mourning, or in shock.
Am I getting a vision from God about an impending terrorist attack where the terrorists attack our ships with our own fighter planes?

Assalamu alaikum sisters. I have a serious question for you and I want to hear what you all think. I would ask people I know, but I feel they may judge me. This is my story. I live in America. I'm 25 now but I had a pretty strict upbringing. At the age of 12 my parents basically made me begin to wear the hijab. They would always pick me up before and after school. I really wanted to play sports in school and join in clubs and be in plays and stuff, but they wouldn't allow it. The only after school activity I was allowed was to build the set, when our school did a play. I wasn't allowed to hang out with friends after school, even if it was just for ice cream or to the mall. I guess my question is, do you ever feel that you didn't get a normal teenage life? I wished I could've gone out with friends, get pizza, go to the beach, and stuff like that. I just feel like I've missed out on so much. Sisters, please share with me what you feel. Your own situation or how you feel about mine.Thanks

I've been told I look like Santa based on the picture I'm currently using. That is a recent picture (less than one month old), so who do you think I look like if not Santa?

God can't die. He has no way of knowing what the experience of death is like.

Sort of like a kid with a bunch of ants. He steps on them and they curl up and die, but the kid has no real understanding of what has occurred.

God doesn't understand what it is like to be a human facing death. Jesus -knew- he'd be in heaven. The rest of us never have that kind of certainty. We can only hope, or guess.

ladies are lining up for my attention. I am physically active (run 20 -30 miles per week) and I have two boys 19 and 17 and two girls 13 and 9. I do not want another woman in my house. How do I let people know that I want to finish raising my kids before I think about another relationship.

Yes, so many people are in help of our need, whether they need a hug, smile, or just a couple dollars for a meal to a homeless person, and the list goes on.....

Story: One time I was at work and this dehydrated lady in 110 degree heat comes into our office. She looked dizzy and disoriented. I asked her what happened. She said her boyfriend dumped her in the middle of the street out of a car, and they were both from Washington! She didn't know Calif. at all.

I took time off work, gave her $10, and took her to a shelter. She talked to me when I took her in my car, but she refused to talk to anyone in the shelter there as I found out later. Hope she's o.k.
