What does it means? Does it mean that If I go down five flights of stairs,
I could get the suspiction that I was escorting some woman home?
I have no idea about this sentence. Please help me out.

it is unclear from your question, what part of the sentence confuses you
go down five flights of stairs (that of course means walking down the stairway for five floors of the building)
create the suspicion that I was escorting some woman home
"create the suspicion" of course means making somebody to think that something may or is probably the case
so here, the guy obviously walked down stairs (probably at the building where he lived or something) going past where he lived or going some place that he wouldn't normally go unless he was going there for some reason, and in this case, because of the situation, people would think the reason he was walking all those stairs was because he was escorting (going along with) a woman who lived down there
he went down the stairs to make people think that he might be going down there to accompany a woman

its like a plan is being made... for example ...he is going to go down five flights of stairs... then when it says create the suspicion that he was escorting a woman home ...to create means to give the impression of ... meaning he wants people to think that is what he is doing .....escorting a woman home ...hope this helps

If there was an elevator and he didn't take the elevator but took the stair case. Create the suspiction so he wasn't really escorting a women home. He just wanted people to think that.
that's my best shot. I'd have to read the book.
