Buddhist practise buddhism in order to reach the state of Nirvana in order to put an end in the cycle of rebirth. Can any buddhist tell me more about Nirvana? Do we still have thinking when we reach Nirvana? Is It a state of nothing?

As far back as I can remember, I have shied away from places and/or people who are telling jokes. Not out of fear, but perhaps embarassment and frustration. So often, someone will tell a joke, everyone around starts laughing, then often the rest of the people will chime in with jokes of their own, and everyone is laughing but me.

It's not because they are laughing at me, but because often I am aware that what is going on is joke telling, that there is usually a punch line and it is supposed to be funny, and it usually is to everyone else. Sometimes, I "get" the punchline, but simply do not find any humor in it. Other times, someone will start to tell me (or a group of us) what I think is a story or anectdote of something that happened to them, or a friend of theirs, or maybe even something that was in the news - in other words, a true story - I listen, and often feel sad or sorry for what had happened to the person, when I find out, usually only because everyone else is laughing

Why does God allow everything in the world today to occur: famine, disease, disasters, war, poverty, destruction? Is this the work of a just God? I suppose a follow-up to this would be: Do you belive in God? Why or why not? Spiritually, I find myself teetering on the edge of my faith. It seems more and more to me that all I'm praying to is my mind. Any value to the Bible is moral and literary, and as a being, he just isn't there. Is God cruel? Does God care? Is God real?

I mean in anything that you consider relevant. What can or can't you laugh about? What do you dare to do and what don't you? How far are you going to act on your principles? What if your principles clash with your convenience? Or with somebody else's feelings?
