If you didnt learn about the christian god through priests, pastors, or ministers preaching about it, or from your parents (since they wouldnt have learned about it either), would you still believe in god?

Imagine no religion. How would people know there is a god? The same way cave men did, with storms and other natural events? Did cave men know of a god in the first place, or did religion start later, when people were more civilized? Did a "magic-user/healer" of a tribe one day decide that, in order to better control his people, he should create a "god"?

If premarital sex is explicitly forbidden in Christianity by the old and new testaments, and you are not simply sinning by accident but ENJOY premarital sex and seek it out, how do you resolve the contradiction?

Although sins are forgiven, my understanding is that this is not the case if you just sin on purpose assuming that you can just repent later...

Please see my previous question and the responses to it for Biblical references...

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own — a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms."

"The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. The religion which based on experience, which refuses dogmatic. If there's any religion that would cope the scientific needs it will be Buddhism."
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." - Albert Einstein

Off to a rough start today, the person at my favorite coffee shop (not in today) but her replacement spilled my coffee as she was handing it to me, not too bad, but got on my shoes. Then every idiot was out on the road this morning driving 1/2 the speed limit. I think I just might need a hug.

No offensive answers please. I'm just trying to understand why as I don't live in the US.

This article says less than half of Americans believe in evolution, whereas in Europe it's more like 75-90% of people.
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn9786&feedId=online-news_rss20

And also on tv as I type there is a documentary about all the bigotry vs. gays in America as opposed to in Europe etc.

Why all the fundamentalism in the US?

There is are two consecutive verses in the Quran [Al Anfal 8:12-13] that say: "You believers should smite pagans above their necks and smite all their finger tips off them (12); This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger: if any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment (13)".

The above two verses simply mean that Muslims should be harsh to Pagans and kill them without mercy because those Pagans did not obey god and prophet Muhammed!

Those two verses raise two questions that I hope anyone can answer them:
1- Why should god order killing and refrain from being merceful?
2- Why should god, the whole almighty and powerful, ask people to fight for him? why did not he fight for himself?

We (ALL of us) that do not convert, subscribe or submit to Radical Islam are under attack!...not just Americans. This is the only major religion (or faction of a major religion) that prescribes death to non-believers...yet most Americans seem "fat, dumb and happy" to ignore this fact, watch sports and Hollywood, bash Bush and pretend that this will "go away". Don't you realize these evil people must be monitored, pursued and wiped out? And there is no "fast food", "instant", one-time-only "quick fix". These people are intent on establishing a theocracy and either "you're IN or you're OUT!"

My wife and I have *very* different coloring and body types, so I assumed we'd never share. But since I moved in, she's always borrowing my scarves and earrings, sometimes without asking. This morning, I complemented a normally casual gay co-worker's suit, and he laughed and said it was his boyfriend's.

How about y'all? Do you share clothing or accessories? And if you do, do y'all ask, or just take what you want out of the closet or drawer?
