If John Lennon is cosidered the "genius" (by some)......?

I think that they were even when it comes down to it! They were at their best when they worked together.

They both had great talent. It was the blend - the creative tension and rivalry - that resulted in their best music.

John Lennon had something most people agree Paul McCartney will never have - five bullets in him.

Sorry to sound so cruel, but John's brutal and senseless death has conferred a "martyr" status on him. His music is very good, but overrated. John Lennon even made a comment to that effect: "If I had died after Walls & Bridges people would have liked it more, even though it was uninspired," or something like that. Check the Playboy interviews he did in 1980.

John's best music is as good as anybody's, but the "hit to trash" ratio was pretty disappointing. Paul has put out some decent work from time to time, and he sold gajillions of albums in the '70s. SOMEONE must have been buying them.

Well, Lennon and McCartney wrote almost everything together, but are they really interchangeable? Perhaps Lennon went further in avenues outside of music to express his views on society, etc.

Only theorizing here, I think they're both geniuses indeed.

I heard a documentary about the Beatles once. I believe McCartney was considered the "showman/cute one/rock star", etc.
