I live in Texas and a letter was sent to me from Nigeria 8 weeks ago. What is the problem with the mail there? How long should a letter from there take to get here? 8 weeks seems like to long, when post office here said it would take 3 to 4 weeks.

My mom is really strict about what i wear. She insists that i wear girl clothes or people will make fun of me because they think i am gay (i haven't told her i am gay yet). I tell her that i don't care what people will say or think but she still dosen't care. Every time I buy boys clothes I get yelled at and she never lets me go anywhere in public with her unless I wear girl clothes, which i hate. My older brother and sister also agree with her. I want to tell her that I am a lesbian so she will let me be who i am but from recent events, it dosen't look like she will be very accepting. I am about to go to college (same as my older sister) and I really need my mom to pay for it. I am not sure she will if I tell her i am gay. I want to start dating in college but i risk my sister finding out and telling on me also. I have no idea what I should do. I want to date and get my college payed for but I have no idea how to do it. I need advice.

I'm an atheist. If I want to learn about the evolution of the Platypus ( something I know nothing about ) I check what those who study that subject have to say, and tentatively accept it as true without demanding any other proof.

Religious people do the same. They consult books on the subject of God, or ask priests. We are no different in HOW we came to believe as we do , just in WHAT we believe.

We cannot morally force others to our viewpoint. I'll come in here and ask questions about things I want to more about from those who have studied. Let's stop using Yahoo as a soapbox to undermine one another.

I don't know why that one guy said that Atheists have no purpose in life because they don't believe in god. Isn't it the other way around?
If you think you know the meaning to life, existence and everything and you think you know what is going to happen when you die and you think you know exactly how you have to act, then you don't have to do any thinking for yourself.
Your whole life is prepackaged and you just have to wait around to die.
If you are an atheist you get to question how and why things work and what purpose it all serves.
So who really has no purpose in life?

It's not like they can just choose to flip a switch and magically believe in Christianity, especially when all they see is a human preaching to them. Everyones' minds work differently, and some people just need more proof than others, just as you're not going to start believing in aliens just because someone claims they've been visited by aliens.

If you don't believe in God or ask "who created God" in an attempt to stump those who believe, can you tell me from where the universe in which we live derived? Or where did the first spark of energy that caused the big bang come from? Or how did "space" get here?

I am not judging anyone. I believe in being fair. As a Christian I have always had to fight for my right to choose to believe that God is a living entity and furthermore (and more extreme) that Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and savior.
I do however love to hear other people’s point of view. So I said all that to say this, if you are going to write that I am “stupid” or that “people that believe this crap are _______”, or say "I can't answer this question because there is no God", please, please, please don't answer. I asked this question for real answers not to be insulted. And likewise, if I have offended anyone with this question I do sincerely apologize.

One of the many definitions of A religion is: A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. Again Athiest sounds like a religion to me. By denying 1 thing, ur practicing another. Ur practicing rejection because u needed evidence to disbelieve. Wrong or Right?

Am I the only person who doesn't watch the news on TV or listen to it on the radio? I get so sick and tired of turning on the TV and hearing about bombs killing people, a daycare center being shot up and children killed, 12 people dying in a 15 car pile-up on the freeway and a guy holding his family hostage.

Who else doesn't watch/listen to/read the daily news?
