It took until the 1600's for people to figure out that the earth was not the center of the universe, why do people put so much faith in a book that was written in a time when people had very little understanding of their own bodies never mind how the universe came together?
The primary job in the "middle east" at the time was goat herding. The goat herders started to ask questions like "where does that glowing lump up there go when it gets dark" etc. So in order to appease the goat herders and get them back to work without worrying about such pressing issues, a series of books was written, telling people where they came from, what they shouldn't do and how to live their lives.
Since they were simple goat herders, they believed every word.
Since we're a much smarter planet now, we see the inconsistencies, errors, contradictions, misogyny, abuse, pain, suffering, and just plain absolute nonsense in the bible, why do people still choose believe?
