It took until the 1600's for people to figure out that the earth was not the center of the universe, why do people put so much faith in a book that was written in a time when people had very little understanding of their own bodies never mind how the universe came together?

The primary job in the "middle east" at the time was goat herding. The goat herders started to ask questions like "where does that glowing lump up there go when it gets dark" etc. So in order to appease the goat herders and get them back to work without worrying about such pressing issues, a series of books was written, telling people where they came from, what they shouldn't do and how to live their lives.

Since they were simple goat herders, they believed every word.

Since we're a much smarter planet now, we see the inconsistencies, errors, contradictions, misogyny, abuse, pain, suffering, and just plain absolute nonsense in the bible, why do people still choose believe?

Because 'believing' is much easier than thinking. Thinking properly is a necessary requirement for being rational. Unfortunately, many people do not know how to think properly. That is understandable, because they do not teach people how to think properly in our public primary and secondary schools. People who get out of our secondary schools knowing how to think properly have done so IN SPITE OF their education... not because of it.

In addition to that, we've got another batch of people who know how to think properly... but are too lazy to do it.

On top of that, we've got a 2,000 year old criminal business enterprise... Christianity, Inc., whose livelihood depends upon people not thinking properly... and so they spend billions of dollars sowing misinformation and outright lies about science, and pursuing sub rosa political objectives, to thwart rationality and critical thought on an international scale.

Presently, around 87% of our population does not know how to think properly... a number that is more like backward, developing 3rd-world nations, than it is like a major, modern industrial power.

Dude, yer speaking heavily about Western religions. People in the Middle East had figured out that the earth rotated around the sun thousands of years ago, by 1100 CE they had figured out the circumference of the earth to an accuracy of 99.5%ish through the use of the sun and angle measurement. The bible has parts which are four thousand years old, and which are two thousand years old, but was compiled roughly 1700 years ago. That being said, I think western religions aren't the best belief systems, but that doesn't stop me from respecting other's RIGHT to believe in such things. Besides the Torah/Bible/Qoran provided explanations for some stuff which we still can't explain properly. It was that ages science, and some of the ethical beliefs and such (not all) should be adhered to today. Three thousand years down the line if we haven't killed each other with nuclear warfare, we will believe the stuff we believe is based in fact today such as the Big Bang theory, the String & Quantum theories, are complete rubbish. You are saying the stuff in the Bible are outdated? Well I agree with you on that in some areas, but definitely not others. I don't believe in a Jewish/Christian/Muslim God, I'm functioning more on Deist beliefs, that some sort of energy created the universe, and that was that. Doesn't mean I don't respect other's rights to believe whatever the hell they want as long as it doesn't infringe upon the rights of others. (which sometimes it does, but what can you do, we are the minority) Fighting stuff like this by calling it stupid isn't exactly gonna help people to 'see the light of science' when you insult their intelligence.

Men did not write the Bible. They did they actual transscribing as they inspired by God to do so.

The Book is as true today as it was back then and it always will be.
God's word is eternal and unchanging. Man tries to change it but the meaning of the word that was given to us by God does NOT change even if man makes changes.
It we take something that is wrong and say it is ok ( i.e. homosexuality) it is still wrong in God's eyes.
You speak of inconsistancies, errors, etc. in the Bible. IF you would read ALL of it and pay attention to what you read, you would find your statement to be totally wrong.
But we know that people like you will pick one verse, take it out of context and run with it.
That's just the way people operate.
But you have a good day anyway.

You need to do more home work. The science of art and other attributes existed in the middle east. Even, the rest of the world. Yes, dogma, and other laws progressed through time.
You are applying a cheap shot to ancestors, that would beg to differ. If you think you are so smart. Why don't you stop this nonsense, abuse, etc.... you speak of. That still goes on today.
Just when we think we're so smart, we realize we don't know a thing.

You say we're a "much smarter planet now", but I disagree. The average person is of the same intelligence as those goat herders. The only difference is they have more information available to process - yet they have no more ability to process it. So they stick to the familiar and don't question it. Thus, goatherder books.

Read my earlier question.

The Bible told us that the earth was round, that blood is vital to life, that the wind blows in circles, that there are at least a billion stars, and that air actually has weight -- long before science ever figured out these things.

those adult men have been informed via God what to good and that they lived existence via God's regulations and have been blessed. this is humorous which you think of human beings be attentive to the thank you to stay existence w/o the Bible. human beings do no longer do it accepted. that's why we've regulations. If we did no longer have regulations human beings could run around doing all kinds of evil issues. you may think of human beings could learn from the previous, yet they do no longer. each and every era makes the comparable blunders the previous era made, on a similar time as quickly as we are informed do no longer do it. the explanation why older anybody is considered clever is using the fact they have considered the comparable mistake made many times returned. we choose the Bible and we choose God. devoid of God their isn't any effects for our movements.

The devil is real busy, as evident by all the non-believers who speak against the Bible. Truly their lives can be saved if we earnestly pray for them. I will include all the non-believers in my prayers tonight, for they new a revelation of truth and they need to be shown the grace that is available if they truly seek answers from God. Again, the devil/satan is busy, with all his lies, deception and his methods of trickery.
