This site rocks(http://www.becominghuman.org/) ...there are many films, etc ...if you take the time to explore it ... the Miocene, and africanus have not been "eliminated" in our lineage ...some moron tried to assert that "habilus" was proven a cul de sac also- which is simply a wrong assertion based on the "fossil record" ... So Methuselah is wrong... there are alot of "armchair" philosophers on this site ,who perhaps based on singular articles ( that aren't speaking for the whole of the science) make rash and stupid assertions about what seems in the lineage...as stands now- Lucy-pithicus and the Habilus later are still thought strongly likely in our lineage... Boisei, and the much later Neanderthal are examples of likely cul de sacs that were not in our lineage ...

Jim you are behind the time ,they no longer consider Australopithecus in the line of man. They now believe it was a dead end branching prior to mans divergence.
