What I'm wondering is, if you think that people can change a fundamental flaw in their personality - i.e. being selfish, conceited, arrogant, vain or on the other hand low in self-confidence, down on themselves etc. to being better people - more kind and generous and happier on the whole?

Is it possible to change one or more bad thing about your character and if so, is there a particular way to go about it? I know no one is perfect but if there's something you don't like about yourself can you change it or are you stuck with that characteristic forever?

Sorry if my question sounds confusing.

I know this boy (We'll call him Zack) who was a very naughty boy, and when he was bad, his mom beat him with an ugly stick and she made him give himself swirlies in the toilet!!!!
Now he's rude and really ugly and thinks he's the best...Are these symptoms of any post-traumatic disorders??? Thanks.

Why me?
seems that even strangers do not treat me as equal.

somehow I feel they can tell right away that I feel insecure and can be easily bullied. This feeling is so strong after a good friend (not in contact anymore) abused me psychological and sexually.

how to help myself.

There is no moral judgment against piracy as a way of life. In fact pirates seem more moral than the British Empire. What are the implications of this?

Currently I am seeing a phyciatrist and a social worker about wanting to change my life.
Just moved out of my house and into my first place in hopes to change things, however still have the fear of social events.
Yes the therapy I am getting is good but it is not the fix for my fears of not knowing what to say and worries of what others will think of me for not always knowing what to say for being nervous.
I am forcing myself to do social things in hopes it will eventually get me out of this rut but I still am finding it hard to go up to someone and start a conversation.
The anti-depressants are helping but was wondering if anyone can shed info if al=anon group meetings would be helpful to get over these fears, since some were installed from someone in my life who drinks.

So I hope to hear some comments about this,

Tell me about people like this. What do they really want? Does the behavior stem from low self-esteem, insecurity, need for approval, etc.?

What have you learned through this website, Y/Answers and Questions, which you would have never imagined you'd learn to be a source of epiphany on a very human level?
You may give as many examples as you wish, but if I could sincerely ask you, please do not treat this question with sarcasm or disrespect.
Thank you very much!

how do you tell?
what is the difference between bullying a friend and abusing mentally?
what makes the abuser not afraid to show his dark side in front of his victim? he feels safe and comfortable to do so? for the victim is weak? or because he knows that the victim would tolerate as they are close?

Okay, so religious 'delusion' or 'obsession' is noted in cases of OCD, severe psychotic episodes, schizophrenia and manic depression. But where is the line drawn between religious devotion and mental illness?
