I am not my sister, I am myself and a very responsible adult. My sister is older and extremely controlling. My mom does not treat me bad or try to control me, my mom is very proud of me and my family. My sister tries to control my thoughts or way of life. I am not irresponsible, I am a very good caring person who makes great decisions in life. She can not stand it when I do not think the same way she do, and she hates it that I do not hold the exact same religious beliefs she holds. SHe does everything she can to control me. I am a free person in a free country able to think the way I want to. THe fact is I am so sick of being insulted and treated as if I am one of the most evil person in the world because I do not hold the strict religious ideals she holds. She is so mean and has been and I cannot take it anymore. I try to stand up for myself in the most mature way and in a nice way but she stills finds ways to put me down. What should I do?

In other words, I was told about a psychiatric classification about a person who thinks that another person is only as good as how they treat them, and disregard the rest of their characteristics.

For example: If you don't treat me well, then you're not a good person. If you treat me well, you're a good person.

Does anyone know?

Does anyone have any tips on how to be more funny and a quick thinker in social situations? I always admire people who seem quick with their humor - is there any trick to getting better at this?

Are people's beliefs based on genetics?
I wrack my brain, trying to figure out how so many Christians can reason the answers they reason.

Having been de-converted, I understand what a Christian believes. But there's a big hole somewhere - like this galactic bell-curve that just prohibits any measure of sound reason.

It's like a scary movie - a Twilight Zone where everyone around you is kind of insane.... Not a lot, they can speak English and drive and shop... But really!

It is astounding how much of the essence of the meanings of so many of these questions Christians completely miss!

If anyone knows of a genetic component that would correlate religious belief or faith with an inability to reason properly, I would love to hear from you.

Likewise, in psychology. I realize that many Christians have been indoctrinated since childhood and that this type of early predisposition to bypass reason can galvanize into a reality/delusion complex where the "victim's" ability to critically investigate their beief, dies.

I do know that it is impossible for people who are color blind to see the same colors we all see. How is it possible for a person who is color blind to distinguish the colors of traffic lights to know when to go or stop? What if the lights are really bad sometimes and all of the colors seem to be lit by the sun's relfections? What if the lights are really dim? I know that I have trouble sometimes disginguishing what color is lit up on unfamiliar roads with bad traffic lights when I drive. How does a color blind person do it?

I know that they can probably guess because the top light is always red, then yellow in the middle, and green at the end.

Thanks for helping!!

Is something wrong with me?
Generally I have a very high self-esteem. Whenever my sister doesn't get her way she slings insullts at me. Such as, "You're fat", "You're ugly", "You're a freak", and other choice swear words. It never used to get to me but lately they have been affecting me more than usual. Is there something wrong with me? How can I make her stop doing this?

I'm a bit interested in this. You can train yourself to where you can see where anything is. Wondering if anyone has any personal experience with this and willing to share tutorials on how to preform.

What do you think makes a person decide to do this to another after the torture and hurt that they themselves went through?

I have touch problems with people, I don’t really mind being touched by them, but I can’t touch them. I’ve always been like this and it's starting to annoy me as I have become unapproachable. I haven’t been abused in anyway. Plus it gives me a serious energy not a playful one, it's just starting to get on my nerves I need to change but where do I start. I think it is greatly associated with a lack of confidence.

Ok, first of all, this is in fact a serious question--both my friend and I have this strange complex where we seem to not be able to walk on the cracks between tiles or sidewalk squares that lay side by side iwithout feeling awkward/uncomfortable, maybe even guilty for some reason. Does anyone know what this is all about?

i asked vegetarians if they would eat a bug to save a cows life..and I got all these hostile answers. I really didn't mean to offend anyone, I just wondered what vegetarians would do in a situation like that.....it was just meant partly as a joke and I was a bit curious. Don't they have a sense of humor?

If you post an answer contrary to the posters' biases, it never gets picked as a best answer. There could be MUCH more convincing answers that disagree with the poster's question, but they would NEVER get best answer.

Why is that? Are people on Y Answers childish enough to not realize a good answer?

I didn't understand my acquaintance/friend's hot/cold disposition towards me: sometimes they seemed to like me and other times they didn't seem to know who the hell i was. A mutual friend, one of his best friends, said "he is just a very confused person".
I guess that sort of was an explaination but I am still scratching my head about what that means.
I suppose it means not to take it personally? but i am not sure

does anyone have any clue what someone means when they decscribe their good friend as a "confused person"?
this person is a senior in a good college, he is very booksmart, kind of shy maybe, but does go and socialize on the weekends, but usualy/always with a close group of the same friends....

I've always been sort of shy but usually I got out of my shell pretty quickly and turned into a wild, crazy, impulsive-type person. But ever since I started going to my all-girls school 4 years ago, I never was able to get out of my shell and it's frustrating - so frustrating. I don't like the girls I go to school with - their mostly rich little brats who drink/do drugs = BORING - and my friends don't mean the *world* to me like other people's friends. I could stand some different ones. I don't have a boyfriend or boy friends.

I'm really unhappy and lonely. I just want college to work out so I can get back to my true self. I hate being so insecure. I feel like I'm so boring - I used to be so different. :(

Is my shyness/insecurity just a phase?
