Ok, first of all, this is in fact a serious question--both my friend and I have this strange complex where we seem to not be able to walk on the cracks between tiles or sidewalk squares that lay side by side iwithout feeling awkward/uncomfortable, maybe even guilty for some reason. Does anyone know what this is all about?

It sounds like the start of obsessive compulsive disorder. Ritualistic behavior can progress into other, more intricate and dibilitating rituals that can effect how you function. If other things start to occur to the same extent you should consult a professional.

I relate very well to this. I have had OCD since I was about 5 years old, when I started biting my lips. It has really progressed since then....

An exact number of times I scrub my hair while shampooing or brushing my teeth at six different angles. I wash out tuna cans before I throw them away to avoid the smell. I clean the blade of my can opener after every use. I zip-loc and seal every thing I put in the fridge. I remove most of my grocery items from their packaging before I stow them away - the idea is not to wrestle through the package to get to the item. I check my answering machine every 10 minutes or so on my days off.

Those are the the ones I'm comfortable explaining right off the bat. I believe I am a textbook example.

One star for your question.

Sounds like you may be abit obsessive compulsive. Some people wash their hands a million times, some switch lights on and off for a certian number of times...I saw where a woman had to step in the left corner of everything that had a corner.

it is OCD. i used to do that when I was a child. It started there and then it turned into if I did step on a crack with my right foot I also had to step on a crack with my left foot. Luckily I broke my own habit before it turned into a disorder.

I do it too. I think it may be a type of anxiety or a manifestation of obsessive compulsive disorder.

That's just like Jack Nicholson's character in, "As good as it gets."

It's some type of OCD and would cause him extreme anxiety if he were to stand on a crack.
