A father passing by his son's bedroom, was astonished to see the bed was
nicely made, and everything was picked up.

Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow.

It was addressed, "Dad." With the worst premonition, he opened the
envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands.

"Dear, Dad. It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I
had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene
with Mom and you.

I've been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I
knew you would not approve of her, because of all her piercings,
tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older
than I am.

But it's not only the passion, Dad. She's pregnant.

Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods,
and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of
having many more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't, really hurt
anyone.

We'll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people
in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so
Stacy can get better. She sure deserves it!!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15, and I know how to take care of myself.

Someday, I'm sure we'll be back to visit, so you can get to know your
many grandchildren.

Love, your son, John.

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house.

I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the
school report that's on my desk.

I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home

Most people live such hard-working lives, even if they become rich (which is awesome if they do).

If laughing feels better than smiling than it's been years since I laughed out fo my heart. I did smile out of my heart a few times. A smile is when you feel good on the inside but how does laughing out of heart feels like?

Do you think that people's judgements are influenced by fiction, for example, judging people to be 'good' or 'bad' when life is patently more complicated than this, simplifying others down to two or three main characteristics, etc?

I was having a conversation with my dad earlier, we were talking about my little brother, I was trying to stick up for him because everyone seems to be laying into him for getting into a bit of trouble at school.

He's only 14 & having a hard time at home & at school lately & I thought my dad should give him a little bit of a break & stop having a go because he's only 14 & his hormones are probably all over the place.

ANYWAY!......My dad says I'm always on the offensive & have an answer for everything like I'm being attacked all the time. I asked him what he meant & he just said I always have to defend everything or have an answer in particular.

I see what he means but why do I do that? For what reason? Why am I on the offensive all the time? I don't understand & didn't realise that I did it! Can anyone help me understand?

This probably overshadows a much larger area of my life. I was wondering if anybody has any serious advice or knows of any useful books in regards to effective speaking. My childhood was extremely shy so I rely heavily on abstract thought processes which throws off my timing completely during everyday speaking situations. Most of the time (especially with the opposite sex) it is always after the fact that I figure out what I should have said, or wanted to say. I want to learn how to convey my ideas more clearly and in a concise manner. Any advice in relation to this would be much appreciated. Thank You.

Stand in front of the mirror for like an hr and just like talk yourself down? Like just stand there and belittle yourself. Every mornign no matter where I am going I will stand in front of the mirror obsessing over my face, my clothes, and my figure. When I do finally tear myself away I feel totally drained and crappy. Tell me im not the only one!

I actually get it sometimes when I say, "I just got déjà vu," and it feels like I already said that before in the exact same scenario.

I was having a discussion with someone not too long ago, and they told me that back in medieval days, there was no such thing as childhood innocence; that children were not deemed too young to learn about the realities of life, meaning that they could be told anything without the truth being sugarcoated, and that the idea of "the innocence of the child" is something that was created by the media and was just recently adopted ( by recently I mean within the last hundred years or so). Can anyone comment on this? Thoughtful answers only, please. Thanks.

My father is a pig. I love him-but a pig. My best friend is hispanic, my other best friend is black and the other is gay. My friends have been in my life for mostly over 25 years. So at holiday we are all together, in recent years, my Dad has been smarting off with comments or "firestarters" to get people mad. He does it when I'm out of the room. SO I can't nip it in the bud. So what do you think?

I am in journalism, which means that I am on the schools paper and I hate it!! I can't quit beacuse I am not a quiter. I have to write two stories but I am way too shy to talk to the people who I need to. ( I am always very shy I don't even really talk at school) I just want advice on how to get enough courage to talk to guys I need to and how to make it through journalism.
