I really want to believe that there is something to the idea of a soul mate, but I can't be sure - not yet anyway.

But, I am certain, beyond any doubt, that there are people that are "mental" for each other -- meaning they are so bothersome, they make you mental! lol

Not exactly.

I believe that one person could be meant for several people, depending on their life decisions. Out of the group of possible "the ones", there might be one or two that exceed the others in their compatibility, but the others would probably work as well (a relationship there would just require more effort).

When it comes down to it though, any relationship with anyone is going to require work, even for a couple who seem "meant to be".

So with this thought in mind, I'd have to say that there really aren't set destinies for people, but several possible destined significant others in a person's life depending on where they end up and when.

Only in a very loose sense. Marriage is more about the willingness to work through the problems that bring other marriages down. If our lives are programmed, then we are fooled into thinking that we actually make choices that matter. "Meant" for each other implies a plan is in place that we cannot escape, that everything happens for a reason, and everything that happens was meant to happen exactly that way. I don't believe it. "Chance and circumstance happens to us all", according to Ecclesiastes, and in another place..."The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike." Some people are more suited to each than others, but it's not about destiny...it's about loyalty and commitment.

No. Unfortunately cupids and cosmic love forces play no part in who you will end up with. The biggest deciding factor as to who you will end up with is the proximity you live to each other. There's a better than average chance that you will end up with someone who lives close to you (within suburb or state). It would be very coincidental if, out of all the countries and places in the world, the one person who was "meant for you" just happened to live not too far from you, don't you think? Don't let this stop you from falling in love though. ;)

Perhaps in a providential sense. It would seem that being meant for eachother depends upon someone who prescribed the relationship before hand. If there were no God, I dont believe people would be "meant" for eachother.

Yes everything is due to past karma. That is what destiny is. Due to our past life Karma and desire we end up with certain people in our life to work out our karma together (action and reaction). For more info on Karma and reincarnation go to http://www.stephen-knapp.com For Universal truths.
