I watched a great doc today about 2 artists during the 18th century and how their paintings helped people discover their self worth and meaning. It has really opened my eyes to socialism and society. Sometimes I feel extrodinary lonely and ask myself what's it all about. Am I the only one that feels this?

I have a great boyfriend, he's never done me wrong, he's always looking out for me and telling me how much he love's me, but somehow that annoys me. I secretly hate it how is such a nice person ... I just hate it. I try to start arguments with him and he just DOES NOT get mad. I've called him every name in the book, insulted him, insulted his family (not directly to them, I just say sh!t about his parents, sister, etc) and when I do that he just goes "why are you being like that? why are you mad at me?".

I am always starting arguments with him, I try to push him as far as I can. I want to see him mad, but it never happens and that only makes ME more mad. Why am I like this? Why do I want to ruin my relationship? Do I have some sort of problem?

I see many of you have a good education. I'd like to know how you financed it, especially the MA, what obstacles you had and how you overcame them.... and anything else you'd like to share. Also do you live in the US, or somewhere else?

Men are also welcomed to answer, of course.

When women debase themselves, many feminists account for such behavior in terms of coercion, a history of childhood abuse, the crippling effects of the media on women's self-esteem, and/or the oppressiveness of patriarchy in brainwashing women into thinking they don't deserve any better.

What sort of explanation makes sense for men?

My bad dreams very very often include alien lights in the sky and extreme terror before I wake up. The feeling doesn't leave me often for a few days and have an irrational fear about this. Is it possible I will become one of those people convinced I was abducted?

On various occasions over the years, complete strangers have approached me and asked me (either directly or indirectly) if I was (A) a vicar (B) one of the 12 disciples of Christ (C) a trainspotter. All of them appeared quite serious.

The truth is, I was a railway worker when they thought I was a vicar, and Ive never been (B), but I have been trainspotting for 36 years now -so on that occasion they were spot on!

My friend is always getting mistaken for a doctor. He isnt one, but he does work in a hospital on the computers, so they were half right.

So my question to you is: Who or what do complete strangers think you are? Were they right, or miles out?

I have a vision in my mind of a life that I've left behind
Yeah, can't you see that lost souls can't swim
You know you'll sink, but you still jump in
And it's alright to get caught stealing back what you've lost

Yeah, don't you know that lost souls can't swim
You beat them back, but they drag you in

can anyone tell me what these last 2 lines means?

If anything, those yuppies should be looking up to me for the simple fact that I, a mature, responsible, hard-working individual is paying her OWN way through a Bachelor's degree in Biology. What baffles me the most is the fact that these people don't seem to have any amount of common sense of the way the world works, as though education and nice cars drop from the sky. For example, I'm asking you if you want fries with that because (you f'cking moron) my boss told me to upsell. To make the company more money. Because it's retail, and no one actually cares if you'll enjoy those fries or not. Cumulatively, the more people buy those fries, the more money comes rolling in. Your Philosophy and Women's Lit degrees didn't teach you this? Shucks. Anyone else have any pet peeves regarding these "lowly" jobs some of you may have worked or are working when it came to other people's attitudes?

I just joined color guard, I'm in band and I have a lot of things to do everyday (homework, exercising, practicing ect) and I usually end up procrastinating. How can I stop doing this so I don't have to rush everything?

Also, if someone can give me pointers on how to be more confident, that would be great.

Thanks!

my bf and I were watching tv. and my little puppy was playing with my sweater, just climbing up my shirt and pulling the strings. my bf thought that the puppy was humping my arm. He spanked the puppy's ***. I got very angry and screamed at him really loud and then slapped his arms.
I feel so bad for doing that, but he knows that I have anger problems. he should have not done that. Did I over react? wtf was I supposed to do?

Hear me out. I like the song. Its catchy. I bought it when it first came out in my Punk Rock days, and indeed, Punk was about rebellion and behaving badly. But the song became a classic and is still alive today, particularly in those Swiffer commercials in heavy rotation where the hook is this duster cloth is "gonna getcha!", as in stubborn, hard to get at dust. Cute.

But we've become much more aware of stalkers since this song first aired and have elevated public awareness that stalking is a punishable crime. Just think about these lyrics:

I will drive past your house
And if the lights are all out
I'll see whose around

and later...

I'll walk down the mall
Stand over by the wall
Where I can see it all
Find out who ya call
Lead you to the supermarket checkout
Some specials and rat food, get lost in the crowd

Now...is this REALLY what we should be singing along to? I do, but I now question it. Isn't this a little CREEPY now by today's standards? No biggie here. Just curious

I hate the emo look. It's not me. I wear normal comfy clothes. ex: cargo pants and a T-shirt or jeans, ballet flats, and my fav top, etc. I don't like black. I like light colors. I also don't cut myself.
but....
I listen to goth/emo, alternative rock, etc. (but I also like other music like R&B).
I'm always thinking of dark, depressing thoughts. I have nightmares of people cutting themselves in the chest and reaching in and taking out their hearts and stuff.
I don't cut myself but sometimes I just use a needle and cut the top layer of my skin (it doesn't hurt at all so I don't consider it emo). I don't have a bad temper. Infact, my little brother has anger issues and has to see a therapist and compared to him I'm extremely calm.

Fun fact: One of my friends is kind of the opposite me. She is kind of an emo poser. She dresses emo and stuff and acts depressed and listens to emo music but she makes people know she does these things unlike me. When we're alone she's very preppy.

I am having lemon basil lambchops, shoestring beets, and baked potato along with some French bread. I am pairing this with a 2004 Spanish tempranillo.

I don't eat lamb that much, so I figured today was a day to try something different since the weather is horrible outside. I might as well test my cullinary skills.

What are you having for dinner, lunch, etc. today?
