I'm wondering if this is normal or not. I am extremely worried about what people think, both friends and strangers, and feel like I constantly embarrass myself with the things I say and do. We're not talking BAD-embarrasing things but just silly-embarrasing. Afterwards (sometime for several days or more) I will berate myself and feel horribly ashamed for whatever foolish thing I said or did. Is there some way to overcome this? It is a major source of stress in my life.

I need to make a life for myself and get a job but I can't find any work.

I would like to go out more but I'm scared that I will look like a loner and no one will talk to me.

I fell out with my friends ages ago and I have trouble making new ones. I can't be around smokers because I have a bad heart condition and loads of people seem to smoke nowadays.

How should I take the first step?

Any help or advice.

Did you ever notice that the "silly" questions on Yahoo! Q&A seem to attract a lot more attention and responses than the more serious issue-oriented questions? Why do you think this is so? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

For example, Abe and Bob are friends. Bob enjoys Abes company and vice versa, whos to say they are really friends and not just using eachother for their own entertainment. I would say there is no difference accept for the negative connotation of the latter. Also, would taking advantage of someone be different from accepting what they offer to you in assistance? Does it all just boil down to our intentions?

I'm shy, I know that's part of the problem, but unless I'm camping/hiking I really don't like to be outside. I hate natural light unless I'm out in the wilderness. I rarely leave my room because of this. There's nothing nature-like around for me to do so I sit at my computer all day, not really interested in meeting other people.

I recently noticed that I have difficulty in listening to others. I always thought I was a good listener. It seems that when I am conversing with others, and they are talking, I begin to drift into 'la-la' land. Sometimes I catch myself thinking about what they first say, and ignore what comes after that.
