Ladies - would it offend you if your husband or boyfriend had to pee, but couldn't find a restroom so he urinated in public while you were with him? Would it bother you more if you had to pee too, but you didn't feel comfortable urinating in public and had to hold it while he relieved himself in front of you? Or would you also urinate in public with him if you had to go too? And would you 'stand guard' so nobody could see your man urinating and so he didn't get a ticket?

In 1969, former Beatle John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono launched the "War Is Over" campaign by buying billboard and poster space in 12 cities around the world. The huge signs read, "WAR IS OVER-- IF YOU WANT IT--HAPPY CRISTMAS, JOHN AND YOKO" The concept is simple-- advertising works. Get a billion people around the world to open their hearts and minds to the possibility of peace. How about for our purpose an ad campaign in Arabic-- quoting a beautiful line from the Quo'ran? What about producing very entertaining Arabic films with a positive message. It is usually the poor of the population that turn to fundamentalism for answers. Children grew up in Palestine, for example in poverty because their government was not taking care of them. Children with nothing to lose became suicide bombers. Had the world chipped in and given them lovely parks, soccer fields and video games it could have reshaped their childhood and their level of joy. Now it costs more in war & anguish.

I mean when your own dad isn't able to love you it takes its toll. That mixed in with the craziness of him using the words, "I love you" but his behavior and actions were far from loving and actually opposite of it. In any case, it has deeply damaged me over the years in the choices I have made relationship wise. I got to a point where I deny myself of all loving potential because of the hurt I carry regarding my dad. So, now that I am older and understand in my head that I deserve love, how do I really grasp that belief and manifest it and let go of the injuries that were ground into me via my father?

chomsky says that there is no alternative to rationality. but what if this ideology priviledges one type of thinking and 'ways of thinking' are independantly developed. i'm not saying behaviourist, i'm kind of saying poststructurlist - but how can you investigate they way that people think if you don't reduce everything to norms and you just want to explore thoughts and regularities in what appears to be a disfunctional use of language (i.e. schizophrenic writing)

Men are obviously physically stronger, and a man's I.Q. is generally 3 points higher than a woman's. Furthermore, I think women have a certain biological role as mothers they need only to fulfill--this is the instance in the animal kingdom and to separate a human from perhaps, an ape, is an arbitrary distinction. I do not think women are honestly good for much else--I am a woman, do not plan to procreate, or submit to any man, though I am aware of my inferiority. Are there any instances where women are superior to men? Certainly now I believe women are inferior just because we are the majority in the United States and still allow ourselves to be marginalized. If we were smarter, or indeed, could compete with men, we'd have all the high-paying and powerful positions, and men would be scrubbing toilet and fixing dinner.

I don't think I am scared and I do not think I feel guilty. I am trying to kill that voice in my mind that keeps telling me I am bad and keeps telling me to be afraid. I do not think this is the real me as I am naturally confrontational and unafraid of most things. Am I on the right track here? I also regularly approach street hoods and call them names and tell them to learn manners. I never feel any fear when doing these things but the voice in my head tells me to be scared. Will I kill that evil voice that wants me to remain mediocre with the approach I am taking?

I'm really tall and hardly a day goes that someone who is a complete stranger doesn't comment on my height. It doesn't really bother me at this point, but I'm curious why complete strangers feel they can cross that social barrier and say something about a physical attribute. Do you have this or a similar experience?

My boyfriend keeps having this nightmare, though the scenarios change each time, the theme remains the same, and in the end I leave him for my ex-boyfriend. We love each other more than anything and plan to get married after college. I would never, EVER cheat on him or leave him. We trust each other more than anyone in the world. We have been best friends since we met 6 years ago and he watched my painful relationship with my ex and helped me through it. We tried to date in the past, but I wasn't ready and before our relationship even began, my ex came crawling back and I took him, a mistake I regret to this day because of how it hurt my boyfriend (and myself). We have worked through this problem and talked openly and extensively about it. The issue has been resolved, so we thought. But his recurring dream suggests otherwise. Is he paranoid? Just struggling with a haunting memory of our past? Or is there something more here that I am missing? And how can he make these dreams go away?

Are there double standards in America? Between gays and straights, blacks and whites, females and males? Jews and Christians?

It seems me, as a straight white male protestant, find the bane of double standards a part of every day life.

In a 1970’s sociology textbook we have at our house, the author wrote that Caucasians developed tall noses that would warm frigid air before it entered the lungs, Asians developed narrow eyes and high cheekbones that would protect against flying sand and the glare of the sun from the snow, Africans developed wide lips and noses because (I forget why), etc. Are these views still accepted in the scientific community today?

If not, how did the features that characterize the various races develop? For example, why do most sub-saharan Africans have very curly hair while most of the rest of the world has relatively straighter hair? Why do blue eyes and blond hair occur mostly in Caucasian populations?

No racist or offensive remarks, please… just scientific discussion! Thanks!
