I'm playing devils advocate here.

Are there double standards in America? Between gays and straights, blacks and whites, females and males? Jews and Christians?

It seems me, as a straight white male protestant, find the bane of double standards a part of every day life.

Are you kidding here? Double standards are everywhere in America. As much as we would like to think that there aren't. Given everything people in the past have done to overcome double standards, people like Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony just to name a few. All of their hard work has come a long way. Unfortunately there are still a majority of people who continue to think with the double standard mentality. Such as it's okay for a man to sleep with several women and be considered a stud, and a woman doing the same is considered a whore, slut. It's a never ending vicious cycle.

Yes, most of the news agencies in this election have turned into little more than propaganda machines for the democrats, and this proves you can literally buy the White House, the interesting thing is when you look at how much more money was spent by the democrats, how much good coverage Obama got while the republicans got negative vibes, and how many voted simply based on race, that the margin wasn't a whole lot wider? We are only talking about 5% at the most, and all the voter fraud could easily account for half of that. We will see over the next four years what kind of journalistic integerity is left, especially when the same old staffers from the Clinton era, so well versed in dirty tricks and scandals, return to the White House. There won't be any republicans in power to blame for what gets screwed up now. I won't vote based on race, I don't belive in affirmative action or that it should apply to the Presidency, I was never told a person of any minority race couldn't be anything they wanted to be in this country, quite the opposite, that is what makes America great. It's shocking to see how many are living in the past. BUT let's see what happens if Obama walks the same line as Bush once he sees the same intelligence reports, and if all the America haters, domestic and foreign, including those who contributed cash, domestic or foreign, wake up and realize he no longer needs them, and they aren't getting what they hoped for in return. That includes some of the clowns on Capitol Hill. Obama is elected, and I'm willing to wait and see how he does, some think the few republicans left in Congress might be easier for him to work with than those democrats who think Obama has to do as they say. Clinton's war in Bosnia was wonderful, or forgotten, by the news media, Bush's war in Iraq was evil according to the them, how will they portray Obama's war in Afghanistan or the horn of Africa? With a double standard I am sure. Will Obama stand up for Taiwan? Georgia? Time will tell.

There are many double standards that permeate our society. The biggest and perhaps most overlooked and accepted one has to do with men and women. Women marry men for money and security everyday. C'mon, we've all seen this: gorgeous woman with a little dweeb, or some fat, bald guy. Then you find out that he's wealthy, or at least succesful. We did tests in psych class where women were showed pics of male models in outifts like McDonald's uniforms or janitors' clothes, along with near-ugly or bald guys leaning against a Lexus or sitting in a huge office with a skyline window. The women repeatedly picked the second group as "more attractive." BUT--if a man marries a woman for money he's a Gigolo! I rest my case! LOL

Of course there are how could there not be. Most people don't look at it that way, because they chose not to.
