In 1969, former Beatle John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono launched the "War Is Over" campaign by buying billboard and poster space in 12 cities around the world. The huge signs read, "WAR IS OVER-- IF YOU WANT IT--HAPPY CRISTMAS, JOHN AND YOKO" The concept is simple-- advertising works. Get a billion people around the world to open their hearts and minds to the possibility of peace. How about for our purpose an ad campaign in Arabic-- quoting a beautiful line from the Quo'ran? What about producing very entertaining Arabic films with a positive message. It is usually the poor of the population that turn to fundamentalism for answers. Children grew up in Palestine, for example in poverty because their government was not taking care of them. Children with nothing to lose became suicide bombers. Had the world chipped in and given them lovely parks, soccer fields and video games it could have reshaped their childhood and their level of joy. Now it costs more in war & anguish.
