No seriously. We assume that we are the authourites on ourselves but are we really? Any thoughts?

err... well, while I would like to think that I know myself best and have ultimate control over my life, I seriously doubt that it's true. I mean, we're all essentailly shaped by the experiences in our lives, so really, everything that happens to us is a result of someone else's input. I do believe in the whole 'higher power' concept, but in some ways, we do make our own decisions, so its our responsibility to face the consequences of whatever we (or others) cause..

Well John, I believe that it is divided into several segments, which would total that no one has a true full authority on him self, because of the scenario and variables related to it, like when we talk about food, you can have the full authority on your decision of eating or not, portion size and type etc. on the other hand, the way you drive your car you are only authorized to follow the rules of physics and law. in both cases you are a variable but when it comes to food you are more effected than others so the decision is yours to control, but in the street and daily life outside your walls you should understand your self as part of a bigger being that some times you have to let go of what you want against what is best for you as a part of that community, region, etc.
So as an average, to kind of know your self to the maximum, create an understanding within your self, of your rights and duties and build your own rules and criteria for respect and demand and I guess things should be fine. "This is just an opinion, I suggest listening to others and comparing all"

No I don't think we know ourselves because we all have our own ideas about ourselves and who we are but we really aren't. I mean I might think of myself as such a really good person and tried to help someone out but I am really a backstabber. And we aren't authorities of ourselves only a litlle bit because we control ourselves like 80% of the time while socioty controls us a lot more.

Whenever I do only personality tests I give roughly the same answers each time so I think I've got a good general idea of what I'm like, except for one or two areas where I'm not sure and keep changing my mind.

For a long time I didn't even know who I was. Today I have a good grasp on who I have become in life. Whether or not I'm content with myself is a different story. But i think I know myself better today than I ever did before.

Absolutely,at 43 years old I do feel I know myself very well, warts and all.Nobody can know you better unless you share every single little thought you have and nobody would ever do that. The secret to contentment is to accept all of yourself as the WHOLE human being and become comfortable with it.
