This question is for those educated in science. I don't believe in Christianity so please keep the Mary story to yourself. I have seen reptiles that have given birth without the male. Is this only present in animals that lay eggs? Has a Mammal ever been scientifically documented having offspring without being fertilized by a male.

I saw a small (maybe 6 inches long) black snake with a bright orange ring around its neck in my yard. Obviously my first thought was a black snake, but I've never seen one with an orange ring. Can anyone tell me what species it is? Links would also be appreciated.

It kind of looks like a miniature tarantula becuase it's fuzzy. It is about the size of a dime (including legs) and is black with white stripes on it's legs. it also has white spots on it's abdomen.

How can I tell if it's a boy or girl and how can I find out what kind it is?
