Horses. Used to be used for transportation and other purposes. There has been no other animal that has been depended upon as much.

Maybe there are many for the different uses we have for animals.
Like the age old saying that a dog is a man's best friend. That would come from the cave people using the dog ancestor to help with hunting for food. Also for companions.
Bovines of all sorts for their meat, milk and other dairy products, and leather.
Sheep and goats for their meat, wool and some milks/cheeses/etc.
Pigs for their meat (ham, bacon, etc.), parts for dog chews, some pigs are trained to find truffles (expensive fungus people eat).
Poultry for their eggs, meat, feathers and wish-bones.
Horses for mobility and heavy pulling until machines took their jobs. In Germany and other countries they are also used for meat. They used to be used to make dog food and glue when they were "retired".
Cormorants for the Asian fishermen. The birds had a sting tied around the base of their necks so that the fishermen could pull the fish out of their throats and collect more.
Canaries for the miners to let them know if the oxygen was running out. The canary would stop singing or even die to let the miners know to get out of there!
Cats for those people who want living ornaments for the home. Seriously they probably were used to help hunters at some stage. (Sorry, but I'm not a cat person)
Parrots are still one of the most widely accepted companion birds in the world and are also generally good for decorating your home.
All species are connected and may be able to live without some others, but need others for survival. They all have their uses.

Finding an animal all of man kind has a relationship is difficult. Large mammals are not found in some places of the world. I think that some sort of parasite or bacteria would be the best bet.
