Unquestionably it is the African elephant. It is substantially heavier than it Indian or Asian cousin. A mature African elephant can weigh between 5.5 and 7 tons. The slimmer Indian weighs in at a mere 3 to 5 tons. The polar bear (ursus polaris) is the biggest bear!

Living or extinct?

Living it would have to be the African elephant, but the blue whale is bigger and heavier. That is why it lives in the water because it would crush itself to death if it wasn't.

Extinct it would be one of the dinosaurs. The latest one is called Sauroposeidon. It weighed 60 tonnes and stood 18 metres (60 feet) tall.

Previous to that it was the Diplodocus.

Good thing that they aren't around anymore hey!
