A mother is 21 years older than her son, in 6 years the kid will be 5 times younger than his mother. Where is the father?

The kid has X years

The mother has Y years

The mother is 21 years older than her son X+21=Y

In 6 years the kid will be 5 times younger than his mother
5(X+6)=Y+6

5X+30=X+21+6

5X-X+21+6-30

4X=-3

x=-3/4

the kid is -9 months old

So is the father on top of the mother having sex?

There are 12 stones. The diamond is embedded in one of the stones. Eleven of the stones weight the same, but the stone containing the jewel weighs either slightly more or slightly less than the others. Find the right stone and find whether it's heavier or lighter. You could use each of the three balance scales exactly once.

Can anyone help me out? My boyfriend and me are working on this one and haven't solved it yet.

OK, I have to prove that
x^3 -15x +1 = 0
has 3 answers. The domain of the function is [-4, 4]. I think I'm supposed to use the intermediate value theorem.
Any suggestions?

I know how to complete the square of a formula to find its roots, or zeroes. I am having difficulty doing the same for cube formulas. The specific question I'm stuck on is:
x^3 - 15x +1 =0 has 3 answers, but I have no idea about how to find the answers.
I know I could just graph it on my calculator, but I need to show my work. Any help would be much appreciated.

Let x ^(x ^(x ^(x^ (...))) = 2
then x ^ 2 = 2 or
x = √2.
So... √2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(...))) = 2

But what if z ^(z ^(z ^(z^ (...))) = 4?
then z ^ 4 = 4 or
z = 4^(1/4) = 2^(1/2) = √2 !!
so √2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(...))) = 4 !!

Therefore √2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(...))) = 2 and
√2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(√2 ^(...))) = 4
so 2 = 4.

What's wrong here?
