i have to build an electromagnet for physics and there are some requirements.first of all the larget voltage i am aloud to use is only 1.5 volts. and to get an A(which i desperatly need)i need to beable to pick up at least 200 grams(40 nickles, 200 paperclips etc...)i am wondering what is the best battery to use,ie triple A, double A, C or whatever, what size wire works best, and how many turns i need around my steel/iron bar,and how to strengthen the current. any help is appreciated

If I had to construct a stairway that lead directly to the top of a 5 storey building, how many standard sized steps would the stairway comprise of?

Standard sized in the sense, the size of steps used inside a building which people can climb, unlike HUGE egyptian pyramid type steps.

I'm now continuing in Mining (M.Sc), But I don't have enough motivation to complete it.
I'm really intrested in Software Engineering, but I don't exactly know how its content may be.
Furthermore, before starting a new study I must attend a 2 year period in Military Service.
I'm 22 years old now, I'm living in Iran.
Do you have any advice or experience for me.

Dear experts,

I want to design a bicycle braking system. I'm interested in hydraulic systems, but I want to start with the regular ones.
I've checked “shimano.com” and there were some nice fact-sheets in there, but before I go over the designing, I need to know what criteria or standards should be considered in designing. For example one standards might be the ability to stop a speeding bicycle carrying a cyclist weighting 80 kg, at a final braking distance of 5 meter, when they're on a 20(degree) downhill, in dry conditions.
Having this information will help me to consider exerted forces correctly, and consider a proper design factor (N) , according to the used materials.

I'm studying mechanics in university, and I've some knowledge about strength of materials and other necessary issues. I just want to know where to start, and also I need some info about the preceding standard,I mean a reliable braking systemr equirements.

I'm looking forward to receiving your tips
thanks

rod of Pyrex glass is precisely measured against an aluminum measuring stick at a temperature of 20°C, and the length of the rod is measured as exactly 25.0 cm. The temperature in the lab is then raised to 35°C for one hour, and then the Pyrex rod is measured a second time against the same measuring stick. The second measurement of the rod’s length can be expected to be:
A. 25.0 cm.
B. greater than 25.0 cm.
C. less than 25.0 cm.
D. less than or equal to 25.0 cm.

The crane is lifting a 180 kg crate upward with an acceleration of 1.2 m/s2. The cable from the crate passes over a solid cylindrical pulley at the top of the boom. The pulley has a mass of 130 kg. The cable is then wound onto a hollow cylindrical drum that is mounted on the deck of the crane. The mass of the drum is 150 kg, and its radius is 0.76 m. The engine applies a counterclockwise torque to the drum in order to wind up the cable. What is the magnitude of this torque? Ignore the mass of the cable.

I'm currently in the school of Civil Engineering at a local University. This semester I'm taking Calculus 2, Physics 1, and a few other classes not worth mentioning. I have to take Calculus 3 and Differential Equations, as well as Physics 2.

My question is, for the engineers out there, specifically civil, what was the most challenging subject you encountered on your way to getting your degree?

I ask because right now I'm struggling in Physics and Cal 2. I know people aren't born engineers and I keep telling myself "Every other engineer had to do this too..." Next semester, provided I pass phyiscs 1 and cal 2, I'm lined up to take cal 3 and physics 2. I'm excited to move forward, but a little apprehensive.
