some advantages hydro power generation has over most others:
- fast startup time (steam turbines in coal/oil/natural gas burning plants take half a day to get up to speed). this allows the hydro plant to shut down when the demand is low, and start back up when the demand increases.
- no harmful emissions to speak of
- low variable costs, and no dependence on fuel prices

disadvantages:
- high capital costs
- environmental impact on the flooded area

i also like geothermal power, and I hope it will continue getting more popular. for the time being the high costs of drilling (tho not any more than oil) and the limited availability of geothermal sources prohibits fast expansion.

Hydro electric power cant be made everywhere, it need a good location where the turbines can be run by water. If that is the case, it is better to have it rather than others.

In other places where winds flow, we use wind to run turbine, the places where oil is cheap they would use fuel generators to make power.

so basically it depend on location and so i wont say hydroelectric is superior than others.

Many consider hydroelectric to be environmentally superior to burning fuel. However, in my opinion the big appeal to most people is that it is cheaper because you do not have to buy fuel.

That is rather debatable.

* Hydro electric plants require damming of water, thus causing enormous environmental damages, measurable on the scale of several years.
* Coal & gas fired plants cause enormous environmental damage, measurable on the scale of days.
* Nuclear plants cause enormous environmental damage, measurable on the scale of several dozen years.
* Similarly, solar, tidal and wind plants cause damage due to their manufacturing & operational impact on the environment.
* I would argue that geothermal presents one of the cleanest options to generate power.
