I have to build a car, that travels between 5-10 in 45 seconds or less and stops whrever the judges tell it to, we wired an RC car to run in a strait line when you turn it on, w/o the remote, now for our breakign system we need a small second timer that could cut off the electricity to the motor, and stop the car on a dime, does anyone know of a "timer switch" small enoguh for an RC car?

A jet is launched from an aircraft carrier wit the aid of its own engine and a steam-powered catapult. The thrust of its engines is 2.3 x 10^5 N. In being launched from rest it moves through a distance of 87 m and has a KE of 4.5 x 10^7 J at lift off. Waht is the work dsone on the jet by the catapult?

I would like to know what is the relationship between octane rating and compression ratio.

What i know is that octane rating is a measure of anti detonation of a fuel. Diesel fuel have an octane rating of ~20 and its compression ratio is ~20:1. Gasoline however have an octane rating of ~80 and compression ratio of ~8:1.

So i would like to assume that lower octane rating will give high compression ratio.

ive got 2 question :

1) I dont understand when using an alcohol+gasoline(say e85,its octane rating is 105) fuel, the engines compression ratio should be ~14:1.
2) What happens in an e85 car when im not using the correct fuel percentage?say maybe 15% alcohol

I know that certain forms of household and industrial waste can be recycled, paper, glass and aluminium for example.

Whilst I know that after a certain point recycling stops being an efficient use of resources. I was curious as to how far recycling could be taken as a technology.

For example, would it be more cost effective at some point in the future to mine rubbish dumps for the resources they contain as opposed to mining the raw matreials.

I'm not sure but I vaguely recollect something about "energy" used in recycling versus that used in refining and that at some point theres a trade-off between the two.

Can somebody give me feedback on the effects of these devices in the output voltage and eventually on the electrical equipment. I'm a little bit worried because these saving devices reduces the output voltage. In an electrical system like ours, the operating voltage is 220V. But once power is channelled to the device, sometimes voltage drops to 200V during peak hours.

Hey, just looking for some information or a website that will either support or diminish the theory that a aeroplane (namely a large airliner) will glide after the engin's have cut out? I;m not sure weather it will or not but jusrt my train of thought concludes that it should glide atleast reasonably? Any help to support this or demolish it would be great..
Thanks

Can we build a playground over an existing parking lot without tearing up the asphalt that is there? We will be using a dirt base with permalife pour and fill for impact absorption. Can anyone tell me if there is a need for the asphalt to be removed if it is covered in such a manner? This is a school build and will require inspection.
