The reason why i want to know is because depending on the answer i get, i may have an idea for a perpetual motion machine.............and i am complely serious.......

yes it does. induced current works in a vacuum. But the problem is friction between bearing and other mechanical parts still exists as well as magnatic forces. Sorry even if you could create energy out of no where (you can't defy physics though) you would still have to be able to transport the energy back to earth.

Any where you pass a closed circuit conductor through a magnetic field it will induce a current into that conductor even in space. Therefore a hand cranked generator will work in space and you should not have any problem building a perpetual motion machine. I am surprised some one has not already thought of that. Congratulations. Whew!

I know what you're thinking: No friction in zero gravity so the generator should never stop... Unfortunately the generator will eventually slow down due to electromagnetic attraction between the coils and the permanent magnets. Not to mention you have to keep that wheel in one place somehow, and even if it is with magnetic levitation (i guess we could call it stabilization in zero g) using permanent magnets it would eventually slow down due to the same forces acting on it.

as long as the magnetic field collapses across the coil electricity will be induced

YES it works in space...

& the ideas been thought of before,,

& you cant get anything for nothing... physics laws...

Thanks guys. I was 16 when I wrote this question. I know know allot more about the subject. I actually became an electrician.
