a newton is the force that 100g is attracted to the earth by.
50kilonewtions = 50 , 000 newtons
50 , 000 newton= 50 , 000 * .1kg
=5000kg

A mass of 1kg. has a weight of g Newtons, where g = acceleration due to gravity in m/sec2 = about 9.8.

So a lintel rated for 50kN will support 50000 / 9.8 kg. = about 5100kg.

mass is measured in kilograms.
